Whenever I walk around somewhere in public I always feel awkward if I'm not doing something with my hands.. I play with my phone non stop while I'm walking somewhere but I don't like doing this because it runs down the battery. I feel I need something to play with to keep my hands occupied... I'd feel more comfortable than if I hand nothing. Any suggestions? I used to fiddle around with a slinky but I lost it :(

Yeah I'm a bit like this too, when I walk out my front door for the first 5 minutes I fiddle around in my pockets and my phone etc, then I settle into a rythmn, left arm right leg etc, like the way models walk.

I'm sure I look like a tit, but then when u watch other people a high % have a dodgy walk. Maybe everyone's walking round thinkin the same thing, lol.

playing with a slinky looks less awkward than good posture with your hands swaying slightly at your sides? how often do you walk into people or miss the gaze of a cute girl/boy because you aren't paying attention to your surroundings? it sounds like this might have less to do with your hands than anxiety and vulnerability.

walking tall, with your hands relaxed at your sides, aware of your surroundings gives off a great air of confidence. it may feel strange at first, but you should try it. :)

That's how I walk when I've had my adderall, but usually I need stuff to play with.. And besides, walking that way is boring imo.

boring? its a natural way of walking

I try walking that way but I've always had these random urges to flex and twitch when I try keeping a certain walk for too long. I always have to clench my fingers and toes and flex or stretch parts of my body.

I have this same problem but for me it's usually when I'm standing still. If your a smoker there's an easy solution, just light a cigarette

While walking I'll either swing my arms, or keep one or both in my pocket

When I'm standing and talking to someone I'll either cross my arms, or I'll swing my arms from front to back, kinda like I'll hold my fist in my hand, then swing them back and fourth, grab my fist, and repeat. It's kinda hard to describe but u get the idea.

When walking or standing, I usually notice it becomes a lot more awkward if I start thinking about it. If I just keep it out of my mind, usually my hands naturally know what to do.

I like to juggle my balls in my hand.

This seems like a very odd question to me.
Do you fidget with your hands when you are still or sitting down?
I've never really thought about needing to do anything with my hands when I'm not using them for anything speicifc.

I used to be insanely self concious about the placement of my hands while walking around (and while doing anything else 8(). Then I realized that no one really gives a damn what you're doing with your hands so it really doesn't matter. Just walk how you want to walk--Who cares if it looks funny to someone else? Are you ever going to see that somebody again? Those who think it's funny don't matter in the long run.

Its a self concious thing in public, but also my body just needs to do it, even if no ones around. I'll crack my knuckles constantly and tap my fingers on my thumb one after the other. When I try to sleep my toes get restless and I clench them and my fingers too. Adderall helps great but I need to end my love affair with that stuff, I've been exceeding recommended doses lately (more than 40mg a in a day). :p

You sound like Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights when he is being interviewed :)

I'm a constant fidget with my hands. I rarely walk with my hands in my pockets & more likely to be playing with a button on my jacket, or thumbing my keys, or messing with my phone. I'm certainly not lacking confidence or even that concious of it. For this to happen, I'd have to start giving a fuck what people actually thought of me. Not gonna happen.

This, and these simple tricks are great to know when real life situations like interviews, job hunting, dating, etc... come into play. The little things ;)

Also – if you haven't already, never start smoking cigarettes!
One of the hardest reasons to quit smoking is because you feel like you need to play with something in your hands (such as, a cigarette).
I have a feeling you might have a hard time quitting if you already have this problem.
