What kind of entheogenic experiences should be expected from psilocybin?

SWIM will be taking psilocybin soon. SWIM is getting interested in psychedelics for their entheogenic purposes, SWIM wants to experience this "awakening" or "enlightenment" thing people talk about. SWIM also believes in the therapeutic benefits of psychedelics.

If SWIM does shrooms, what are the chances SWIM will come down seeing the world a different way? SWIM believes DXM has caused SWIM's take on reality to change, but SWIM finds DXM to be disturbing more often than not.

We don't SWIM here.

It's best to not do psychedelics "expecting" anything, then you'll never be disappointed. Everyone's experience is different.

More importantly, consider this: are the drugs changing your viewpoint, or are you changing your viewpoint?

Psychedelics certainly can be a perspective shifting mystical experience. But they aren't always so. A lot of the effects are largely dependent on set & setting.

If you're looking to facilitate that type of experience, there is plenty of literature on the subject. Some of the recent studies on psilocybin are on the maps.org website & the methods section of those would be a great place to start. The book The Secret Chief and or any of stanislov grof's work on LSD psychotherapy are also excellent resources.
