Addiction What Kind of Addictions are covered by/dealt with at Narcotics Anonymous?

I was thinking of going, but wasn't sure I kinda fell under the umbrella of what they deal with because I don't use any "street drugs"? I'm addicted to prescription meds? Primarily opioids and GABA drugs, but I take a combination of Opioids, Benzodiazepines, Anti-Depressants, Anti-Psychotics, Sleeping Pills, Gabapentinoids, Muscle Relaxers and Anti-Histamines?
Does that matter at all?

I know these places can be pretty open. Like, my doctor once recommended Overeaters Anonymous to me (bulimia) and said I'd DEFINITELY be fine there, but at the time I was 30lbs underweight and was scared everyone else there would be obese and stare at me, or think I was taking the piss, like just turning up sarcastically or something, so I never went.

Everything. It's mainly just for people who don't identify as an "alcoholic", but the literature is basically identical to AA.

I've seen people at both AA and NA for just weed. I've seen alcoholics at NA and DAA (drug addicts anonymous).

In the end it doesn't really matter what you are addicted to, the 12 step process and the traditions are exactly the same for all 3 programs.

The key is to find a group with people you can relate to and feel comfortable around.

All even non drug addictions are addressed.

But pharmaceutical gaba drugs definitely qualify.

You’ll hear a lot of ignorant stuff and you might not feel like you fit in with most of them but when you hear the situations and literature you’ll see it does broadly apply to you even though not literally.

Does that matter at all?

No. You might actually encounter some people who are looking for answers to exactly what you are looking for.

Give it a try, if you want to.

You might be surprised at some answers to questions you hadn't thought of yet, which would be a great psychological boost.

Or, just listen to others and "get the lay of the land", the first few times.


Whatever you decide to do, at least it shows you are trending in a positive way.

If all three are basically the same, does that mean the whole God/High Power thing is a big part of NA, too? I tried AA back when I was an alcoholic but couldn't stick with it because of all the religious/pseudo-religious stuff.
