What is your Educational Background?

B.S. in Mathematics from a Top 10 Public University.
All I do at work for 8 hours a day is read Erowid, Bluelight, The Hive and any other Medical/Scientific/Chemical abstracts I can get my hands on. I am attempting to learn Organic Chemistry on my own (my roommate PlurredChemistry is helping me with this). So, I guess my knowledge comes form everyone here plus anything else random I can remember.
 
Graduated after my 1st quarter my Senior year, top 8% of my graduating class (supposed to be class of '98 but as I said, I graduated about 3 months into my Senior year) .. I was just so but out busting ass through high school (I totally slacked and had a minor bump my first year so the next 2.2 were spent doing nothing but focusing on school) I didn't really apply myself as I should have and failed to make the effort to head to a 4-year school (a 4-year program I mean) I went to a Florida college for almost 2 years and earned my Associates in Science (computer science - totally useless!) .. I then spent another full year taking more second-year type science type classes as I now had a goal of going to med school.. after Organic chemistry II (dropped) and Physical chemistry I (passed), I began to re-think my ability to pull this off.. at this point I was REALLY BURNT OUT with school and said fuck it, even though if I had stuck with and got past the "gore" classes (Organic chem II and the higher math classes) I would be in med school now .. even back then I was reading MCAT books and when I apply myself I can really do some incredible shit... I horribly regret not continuing and going to med school (it would have been Internal Medicine at first but I would have then changed to anesthesiology) ..
I took a college 'program' for phlebotomy ('introduction to basic nursing' and of course phlebotomy) .. this earned me my certificate making me a certified phlebotomist ..
Took 2 weeks of evening classes offered by Eckerd’s (the pharmacy) after I worked as an 'unofficial' pharmacy tech (aka "cashier" that does all a tech does) for about 3 months, all this and I took the Florida State Board of Pharmacy Exam and passed what was a horribly easy test - so I am also a CPhT [Certified Pharmacy Technician] .. I laugh at that home education company that offers "pharmacy tech" as a career ..
While in college (and several years after it) I worked tech support, during that time I took advantage of the companies education programs and earned my MCP, A+, and MCSE (no 2000 cert though, I hear that’s a bitch) .. not that these are worth anything except that they look good on a resume, but I am a certified Gateway, Dell, SBC, and SNET technician (meaning I could go work directly for any of those companies doing tech work) ..
I really had a lot of time on my hands and went for some other useless certs - I took a weekend class and am a Licensed Fugitive Recovery Agent (bounty hunter) in Florida, I am a registered Process Server (to server people with summons, subpoenas, and shit like that) and have a CLERT on Skip Tracing and Bankruptcy Dispute ...
I hope to take my Bench Test so I could be considered a "master Jeweler" as well...
As for drug education - when I discovered drugs in early 1997 I began to read EVERYTHING I POSSIBLY COULD .. so all my education comes from the internet, books, magazines and medical journals.. I have spoken with a WHOLE SHITLOAD of medical pros and experts too; including Sasha Shuglin and his wonderful wife, George Riacurate (sp of last name?) as well as several doctors that did special studies regarding opioids .. I had one of my documents regarding opioids and depression reviewed by a psychiatrist (and learned I had a ways to go) ...
That’s about it for my life’s worth of accomplishments... oh, I have a certification from the court-ordered drug place .. it was a "drug education course" that didn't teach us anything, in fact if anything it was full of NEGITIVE information .. along with that I have my "D.A.R.E." certification from 5th grade (we were the very first D.A.R.E. class!) ...

- have worked as a graphics software developer on and off since 96.
- currently unemployed and looking for work so's I can afford my habits.

Dear god their are an unholy amount of people in mathematics/physics doing drugs. Think of the percent in the general population (really fucking tiny) to have at least four replies in these fields is fucking amazing (even if you don't group them it is still amazing...as I used to be in physics and know alot of people who cross back and forth I consider it to be close others may not).
 
BA english literature.
I do computer work for a living.
Most of my drug education comes from personal interest/self-medication/reading/sharing with others.
 
TECH USER's TIMELINE
barely graduated highschool
(too many raves!!!-running meth and acid all over the east coast)(no time to sit in my boring ass classes, where I believed I knew more than the teacher)
(after a night of raving and forgeting a calculater)
took SATs, scored over 1200 and realized I actually was smarter than my teachers
B.S. in Mechanical engineering
with a minor and an associate degree in enviromental technolgy
hell if I could make it to work every morning
decided to change careers to something that would better fit my schedule
Associate degree in accounting
Now I am an accountant(who knew)
Lots of work = lots of money = lots of drugs
 
Where the heck are all these math/physics heads coming from? I though zorn, kewl, and I were the only ones... :)

i graduated with a bfa concentrated in graphic design. i am a vector geek :D

I just switched from engineering to psychology for my bachelor's.
 
My brother bought the Anarchist Cookbook when I 13 or fourteen and immediatly became interested in all the cool stories and clandestine methods of making drugs that were in the book. Bomb making and becoming an urban gorilla were cool but weren't as interesting. This being way before Bluelight and just at the beginning of he worldwide web I pretty much used the Anarchist Cookbook and libary drug books (you know the ones called "Crack" "Inhalents" "Heroin" etc)to research. Anything that I could find I'd eat up informationally.
Ater doing drugs I became even more interested, and aftr I got permanently changed for life through LSD I became obsessed.
I have am a certified Physical Therapy with a BS in PT and and a minor in Biology. I was lucky enough or by some act of god to score the chem lab work study job that I ended up working in for my colege career having full access to just about any chemical you can imagine to methylamine to arsenic, 12 hoods, lab ware that would make your head spin and priveleges that allowed me to use the lab after hours to work on "lab prep." That allowed me to realy expand my horizons.
As far as sart people OD'ing, I believe thats just the drugs taking over. Smart or Dumb you can't fight the strength of a substance. Even if you're Einstein you can't stop accidents and Addiction.
 
Just finished A levels (straight A's in Double Maths and 2 sciences) and about to start a Maths, Pure and Applied degree (intention to specialise in Theoretical Physics in Yr3&4) at the best uni for Maths here in the UK.
Most of my drug knowledge comes from Bluelight or Erowid. I browse other sites as well, but not as much as here. I also glean what I can from personal experience.

Formal Education:
1)Prep School
2)College (Stanford University, still attending currently, English and Bio/Chem majors)
Informal Education:
1)The influence of my parents, who both work in the health/medicine field
2)Medline (PubMed) -- basically reading through many, many medical studies relating to drugs, psychiatry, and neurology.
3)Bluelight, of course! Drug Dustbin, Roches, PhreeX, Sebastian's Ghost and others have been major influences/mentors in particular.
4)Browsing through a variety of websites.
 
It takes years of experience to say you know most of the necessary things about drugs. The key is research, research, research. Personally, I started by asking a lot of questions, associated with using people when I knew I was curious about something, researching carefully--this means eliminating the bad info--on the net (Erowid, Bluelight, government drug reports, SIGMA, and medical / pharmocological sites. Just go with what you feel is right: if you're into scripts, buy a PDR nurse's drug reference. Just remember the key to having and maintaining a good time is safety, careful study, and of course the balls to actually experiment.
 
^^ Don't put too much faith in books like the nurses PDR (just out of curiosity why do you recomend that instead of the physicians PDR). Not that they aren't valuable resources and the writers generally try to have cites for all their claims but many people seem to take these books as the final word in the matter and I have seen similar books (this was the reference book for doctors/nurses on pharmacology) make claims like 'oxycontin isn't very addictive'.
Ohh I am all for those new threads in the lounge. Dear god anything but what is there now.
