What is the most harmful drug?

You would have to define conditions of use. Many, many drugs can easily kill you if you OD, so it makes little sense to discuss which will kill you more. Alcohol, methamphetamine and MDMA come to mind as compounds that can become very physically destructive with relatively moderate frequent use. Alcohol has an unfairly positive reputation in the mainstream and an unfairly negative one amongst many BLers. It's a nasty drug when abused, but is perfectly safe for most people in moderation and even has health benefits in some instances. MDMA is probably always at least a little bad for you and definitely very destructive when abused. The dangers of methamphetamine ramp up greatly with frequency and quantity of use; the big problem for many people with this compound, IME, is that its extreme addictiveness makes it difficult to maintain any reasonably safe level of use. That said, I do know a few individuals who have recreationally experimented with meth, enjoyed it a lot, but never developed any problems with compulsive use, so as always YMMV.

in your opinion what is the most destructive and sinister drug out there and why? for me i would have to say bromo dragonfly. causes necrosis neurotoxicity and could be sold as less harmful drugs like lsd. some eats ten thinking they are acid i feel so bad for them. i had ten sheets each 100 mm perf hits.? i took two and not knowing how long to kick in i became inpatient and took 5 more. total 7 mg bromo. oi cant believe im im alive. i threw all ten sheets away being a strong believer in karma. the worst part was by day 3 i was in a complete psychodelic break and couldnt make it to my meth clinic. so i had the worse trip of my life opiate sick and withdrawaling from clonazepam. if you want a trip report email me. know what you arwe taking. plur

I took strong hit of D.O.I and had fatal harmful effect (necrosis btw) and crappy stuff like that but i survived :D

that study is a crock i think. i mean look at where he placed cannabis. so far NO ONE has ever overdosed from marijuana. and yet it ranks higher than solvents? solvents do one thing, kill brain cells. and GHB is at the bottom of the list? whatever. i watched a thing about this on the BBC. i feel like a lot of those results have to do with the popularity of the drugs.

In terms of societal harm: Alcohol is the most destructive. It's one of the few drugs to turn people into violent monsters.

Harm Short term: Meth

Harm Long term: Cocaine (implying it's not cut to death with levamisole, then it's more physically capable of killing you than meth.)

Harm Addiction: Heroin (And other strong opiates.)


All of the above is addictive and destructive in their own qualities. I don't think anyone should write off a drug and ignore facts because it's their DOC. Heroin overdoses kill people ALL the time, but they would not if their dose was actually a known increment and not an eye-balled guess based on purity.

most harmful approved pharmaceutical on chemical toxicity per weight? Botox! (as botulism toxin has one of the lowest LD50 for anything)

based on the lifestyle that people tend lead? That would imo, be my DOC, amphetamines/cocaine, not so much do the drug, but due to the not eating/not sleeping/poor hygiene/etc

Alcohol for sheer scale of damage it does by population, sheer cost of treating alcoholism in society, and how difficult it is for alcohol dependants to sober up given its priveleged place and absolute ubiquitousness in society.

Nicotine, as above.

Heroin for its uniquely addicting characteristics, problems associated with addicts poor life-style, social isolation and vulnerability to effects like homelessness, imprisonment, major crime and extreme violence perpetrated against them by other addicts, etc, and adulterated supplies, though in and of itself a clean maintained supply much less damaging than it is widely held to be. Mostly social effects of the addiction itself, rather than the drug in health terms.

Crack Cocaine for the way it turns you into even more of a must-get-more monster than a genuinely physical dependency like opiate addiction.

COPD and oral and lung cancer from smoking. Cardiovascular disease from being overweight. (and marijuana is a strong appetite stimulant) social problems from being stoned all day and not doing anything but listening to phish instead of going to work?

In my beliefs and im not stupid, I know my shit and have seen as well as experienced a lot, I think Methamphetamine by a long shot is more physically damaging, psychologically too but there are other drugs that compare psychologically/mentally due to various factors(mental illness, previous addiction, personality etc) but from what its done to me, others around me and what ive read from others ive come to the conclusion that meth is by far the worst drug. Alcohol comes second though but I think if it were illegal and bootlegging didnt exist I dont think that would be so, alcohol is so available and socially acceptable thats why I believe meth is more dangerous, because many more people can access and are willing to drink and therefor become violent, addicted or OD from alcohol whereas nowhere near as many use meth but theres a much higher percentace of meth users than alcohol users that end up with serious problems.

Heroin is bad but I dont see that much bad to it these days, its only when someone OD's that we really take much notice, most dont seem to have health problems except for OD'ing and HepC etc...

Now i think of it maybe injecting pills is the worst?

And that's a sentiment shared by many a young person between the ages 18 - 25. It's frightening, really, but I understand it. I think that powerful, prescription pain killers set the stage for us in the 1990s, and after two wars, rampant unemployment, a mountain of debt... well, damn, it was inevitable that we'd reach out for something to make the world a little softer, huh?

Coke, while you have cravings constantly for a few weeks after use, is pretty easy to let down if you're not completely in love with it.

The chart/graph shown above takes into account a number of parameters, not only acute toxicity/overdose, but long term toxicity, social costs, how widespread the drugs are and other risks such as psychological risks/psychosis/depression etc. Heroin, whilst perhaps not hugely acutely toxic, is very addictive, and often leads to people developing habits. Also (thanks to prohibition) there is a large number of deaths due to dosing/purity inconsistencies. Hard to say where Heroin would be on this list if it were fully legalised. I do feel that Ketamine, Cannabis and LSD might be a bit high, whereas Solvents, 4-MTA and GHB might be a little low.

DOC is slightly vasoconstrictive, but is generally not too bad unless you go crazy with the dosage. Staying around 5mg will probably not cause you much issue, but be aware, there is a body load on DOC that feels a bit like say 2C-P or 2C-I. I don't know what the maximum dose one could take of DOC before vasoconstriction became a significant issue.

As far as I'm aware, DOI is a more potent vasoconstrictor than DOC is, and is generally considered to be more hazardous than DOC. Lasts roughly 1.5 times as long as well.
