what is the best college football conference?

ESPN -> NCAA Football -> both Big10+1 and Big12 blogs reporting Big10+1 in talks with TX

A source with ties to the Big Ten said that while most people’s attention has been trained on the conference stealing Missouri, the Big Ten has engaged in “preliminary exchanges” with a much bigger fish from the Big 12.

“There have been preliminary exchanges between the Big Ten and Texas,” the source told the Journal-World on Wednesday. “People will deny that, but it’s accurate.” …

I'd link, but for some fucked up reason, espn is getting blocked from my pc at home...

all for it! Texas is essentially a Big 10 school, with a Big 10 offense spiked with a little more ingenuity. Austin is the Columbus, OH of the South anyways.

all my family is from Ohio. i go 1-2x every year. i have a cousin at OSU. everyone is a buckeye.

my sister graduated from UT

and not to be rude, but in defense the awsome city that is Austin

Austin is a wayyy better/nicer/cooler, etc, then Columbus

@ thread: SEC,Big 12, BIg 10/Pac10, ACC, Big east, MWC, WAC*/MAC, C-USA/Sunbelt n watever else was forgotten

*(ya ya Boise St., the rest of that conference blows)

and this Texas Big 10 talk sounds very foreign to me, i dont see it happening

it's different. I love Austin, my band is playing SXSW this year.

there are some similarities in the arts, you are missing quite a lot my friend: Columbus calls itself the "indie arts capital of the world," and Austin has a bad ass music scene with the best music festie in the world. in Columbus (and Ohio) people like to get drunk and watch football... in Austin (and Texas) people like to get drunk and watch football. both cities are adamant about their football team, and their basketball teams are usually quite good too. both cities are split by a major road (High St in Columbus... and shit... I forget about that main Austin street), but along this divide of the major artery - there seems to be a bar for every establishment that is not a bar.

i guess maybe its just my bias

the Vibes that are Austin are amazing

I see your point about the arts and football though

Its 6th St. in Austin i think you are referring to in regards to the Bars

Congrats on playing SXSW

I wont be there cuz i usually go to Marley Fest which is the month after SXSW usually the week of April 20th

Actually, improving your top teams would help you out a lot more in that it bumps all your mediocre teams down a notch and they might be in more evenly matched bowl games at that point ;)

However, the SEC will never be forgotten. The south shall rise again.....if it ever falls off the top position :p

++++

Also, didn't comment earlier, but did ask myself "Why is it nobody from TX ever calls Austin the 'Columbus of the South'? Or even refers to C'bus as 'The Austin of the Midwest'?" and the only answer I could come up with is they look down on C'bus like a lot of other people and wouldn't want to be considered in the same *ahem* class? ;)

+++++

Back to title of Indie City, I would have to chuckle along with atlas on that one - his town earned the title decades ago. Now, I don't know how strong it is now down in Athens, so the title might have moved on. But having been to C'bus, and not having been to Austin, I'd still have to give a nod to Austin >> C'bus on that one. Just sayin'.

you guys are taking in account only music :: sigh ::

although Columbus has a great music scene (I would know), it would be difficult to stand up to the likes of Austin. I don't really enjoy the music that comes from Athens, besides for maybe the Howlies or the Black Lips (but I think they are Atlanta anyways).

C-bus is known for its art (as in paintings) and gallery hops. do they even have paintings in Athens?

a fine arts school in a state university is a great punchline to anybody who has gone to an arts or music school (like myself).

I can give props to Savannah's school, but UGA's... come on.

LOL @ the painting comment. I don't know how comparing the similarities between Austin and Columbus started such a flame war. it's not like I personally made up the "indie arts capital of the world" statement. if TLB could see through his anti-Scarlet and Grey glasses he could maybe see some of the art schools, artists, bands, and galleries that make newspapers say this sort of thing.

all I'm saying is that despite the length between the schools, Texas would make a fine addition to the Big 10. even though this would make the Big 12 weaker than the Big East 8o

Hol, you and axl didn't start a flame war, pb and I just can't resist a chance to piss on the SuckEyez whenever we get a chance, especially if we can beat our collective SEC chests and grunt in manly, conquering ways. There wasn't so much a flame war as there was two SecondEchelonChumps wanting to pick a fight ;) One we never grow tired of <3axl<3

I'll be honest, C'Bus is the state capital, they ought to have decent 'arts' and stuff. And besides Cinci and Cleveland, isn't it the only decent sized city in the state? But staying honest, without my hater-shades on, I honestly haven't heard of such 'indie' content coming out of C'bus - not saying it isn't there, just I never heard of it when living out of state or in my 6 yrs of time served. Until your statement, I didn't know that tOSU was known for it's art school either. On that one, I'm probably too busy making fun of FSU for their clown college to notice such programs in other schools. Seriously, we never get tired of clown jokes amongst the gators when we talk of the Seminoles.

^Blasphemy

FSU Rules!!!

Bobby Bowden is THE FUCKIN MAN (so sad the way the Board of 'whoever' treated him)

Oh yea and despite the overwhelming stats and evidence otherwise:

THE GATORS BLOW!!

all kidding aside, i live in TX, i Love the city of Austin but TX is my #2 team, i was born in Tampa and always have and always will be a FSU fan.

who the hell was better then FSU in the 90's? (and before you say thats long gone; im just saying i was born in 88 and the 90's is when i developed a love for the game and 'chose sides' so to speak)
