What has the rave scene come to? :(

Sorry Monkey, but real raves absolutely do exist up here, like I said, and if you went to one of the events I'm talking about, you definitely wouldn't disagree. Living in South Florida doesn't really give you much of an opinion on events up here, because in South Florida, they fucking blow and have for years, which I said so I'm not really sure why you were trying to call me out on that or something...

What's fun in EDM in So Flo? The south beach clubs have good shows and DJ's but they are a friggin PAIN to go to. I can only think of two non upscale EDM clubs here. EDM and fanciness/snobbery shouldn't go hand in hand!:o

it really depends on what one thinks that a "rave "is. When i used to go to "raves" from the early 90's to about 2000 it was quite different then it was today. What was once underground scene(im sure that they still exist just in small doses) is now more of a club type setting with edm. The "raves" that i used to go to had map points (sometimes 2) and it seemd more of a adventure that might happened might not. Kinda made it exciting. But as something gets bigger, sometimes things get complicated... (sorry listening to mau5 lol) Laws get passed ,people go there to get fucked up and couldnt care really about edm itself(thanks to news reports glorifing raves as huge drugged up sex parties lol.. ah the 90's). "rave" kinda evolved to what it is today which has it minus and pluses. Eventually this mainstream "rave" culture will die and it will go back to the underground where the true fans of it will still be celebrating the original ideals of why rave was started in the first place.

I started going to raves out in Idaho in the late 90's. I moved to South Florida shortly after and they were similar, but starting to come above ground. Even still there were underground ones and the above ground ones were good and low key, not at big fancy clubs but rave clubs. They got super commercial though and raves pretty much went away. There is still good live electronic music, but it was in more of a club or bar type settings and there was no atmosphere.

Now I live in the North East and the parties I go to are put on by small trustworthy promotions companies. They are small - like 1000 people, the tickets are 15-20 dollars, they are in a variety of venues like lazer tag arenas and some clubs, and water is cheap. The "vibe" as many call it is incredible, just like the "good old days" and the crowd is older. There are a variety of costumes and everyone is just there to have a good time. It's a blast and I haven't had as much fun at raves since I started going. There are also a few "underground" parties in the summertime in the middle of the woods, they call them outlaws, and they are a good time as well.

In addition, there are still some awesome raves in Toronto. Raves aren't dead and commercial everywhere. Things have evolved somewhat, as I said earlier, one thing that's really improved IMO is the production quality. The sounds and the lights have gotten so much better. I went to warehouse raves and yeah, they were great for their time and I loved them, but thinking back, they could be really hot and stuffy and shitty in other ways too. To me, what really changed in the electronic music scene in Florida was the people. The atmosphere completely went away and it just wasn't fun anymore.

True crew and tight crew mayhaps?

If you synthesize MDMA correctly, in this decade and last decade, it's not going to be "better" just because it was in the 90s. There might be more shit pills around nowadays on average, but there's also pillreports.com to look up your shit which wasn't there in the 90s. MDMA is MDMA, 1990s or not.

Shit nothing in life stays the same for 30 years, it's just not possible but I'm all for originality. There are some bomb raves around nowadays I've been to (Phoenix where i live, Los Angeles certainly, and been to some in Chicago), with a friendly scene, but the music isn't the same shit. I like electro and dubstep but I already miss the old-school happy hardcore and trance raves.

Like anything in life the original days are always better than the new age shit, if you were around back then to experience it. None of my friends who just picked up on EDM can get into the good old school shit because they weren't around for that era, and the sounds are "outdated" to them. They don't have those epic memories of listening to trance when it was big five years ago, so it means nothing to them.

That's how shit works unfortunately. The new age ravers who are around today, in 20 years they will be making the exact same complaints as us ("shit ain't the same nowadays") once the scene takes the next obscure direction.

On a side note, video games and movies went to shit as well.

It seems in life as time progresses and technology gets improved, things lose that RAW feeling they once used to have.

Central FLA does still have some pretty cool parties with pretty cool people. I try not to use the word rave. But yeah in the 90's Orlando had a lot more good parties. Also they werent super exclusive so you didnt have to know somebody who knew the promoter to get in. After 2000 when cyberzone and empire closed everything went commercial. Firestone started to change as well. If you know where to look there are still small get togethers at random Dj's houses. Much smaller crowds without all the glowsticks and vaporub LOL. Its mainly breaks here but I like breaks.

hahahaha speaking of true raves, I was hosting an underground show the other night in some abandoned school and the cops showed up and busted like 2 or 3 dealers and took my records, ahaha, it sucked, but it was an amazing night.

Haha, HELLO Gator Girl!

IMO Ecstasy has definitely taken a turn for the worse. There's plenty of goods out there still, but you can't be trusting, you have to test. Remember when you didn't even question if what you were getting was MDMA? Those days are long gone. The adulterants are nastier, in that they mix up these cocktails with bullshit chemicals that are designed to trick the user into thinking it is MDMA. The Northeast is a fucking disaster for ecstasy. I'd say Florida is in pretty rough shape too. Even parts of the country that have consitantly "good" pills like California... the pokeballs are only 90mgs. You have to wade through so much garbage and test and test and test until you can find something good. The sad thing is, most of the ecstasy newbs don't even know what it really is. Talk to your friendly neighborhood 19 year old druggie and ask them about ecstasy. I seriously have been told over and over again that pills that I have tested were "trippy" (uhhh... since when is ecstasy trippy?) and that MDMA and ecstasy are different. They think ecstasy is always different and don't have any fucking clue that it's not supposed to be. Fortunately, it seems molly is making a strong come back up here because of all the shitty pills.

Sucks about your records Warped. WTF are they gonna do with them anyway?

Trying to bring the old school rave feeling to raves today or expecting to feel it at raves today is not reasonable. In the height of the scene in the 90s, it was it's "heyday" because it was the first time it was being done, so obviously it was original, which made it adventurous. No one knew where it was going. It was it's own movement.

I gave up on trying to recapture that feeling a long time ago, but the aura of raves is still present at certain events in the Northeast. It's not as easy to find, but when I do, it's fantastic. Ironically, I'd say part of the reason the vibe's not as good is actually because of some of the old school ravers who have a poor attitude that just eminates that they're "over everything."

In fact, some of the best raves I've been to recently have been raves with younger individuals. By younger, I mean early 20s, and it's because of the fact that everything is relatively new to them, so they still have that excitement about things that really contributes to the energy and atmosphere of the event.

It's up to each participant to contribute to the vibe of the party and that means us older ravers should have a lot to offer since we remember the height of the scene and what made it so memorable.

This is a problem for the rave scene here. As much as many would like to deny it, actual mdma is arguably the driving force in the vibe of parties. Without it, it won't continue to be the same, and it's been AWHILE since mdma has been in steady supply in the northeast.

It's actually funny to me because a lot of the kids I hang with seem to not understand why I'm so picky about my pills and why I'm such a fiend for good pills to begin with...why is this? Probably because they've almost never had a good pill in their life so they just don't know what they're missing.

Although, I did steer one kid in the right direction of a stamp I knew was good and he wound up finding it at a rave and rolled harder than he had in his life. Now he listens very carefully to which pills I suggest...lol.

Like I've said before, it's all about who you know. MDMA is doing great in the northeast. Don't say bad things about the northeast if you don't even know the scene. Pipes are everywhere, it's a sad fact. Where ever there are bad pills, there are amazing ones.

I'll rephrase what I said to mean NYC, not the entire northeast. Now, if you try to tell me there's plenty of good pills in NYC, I'm going to have to assume you're one of the poor fools who think they're getting mdma when they're not.

Also, where there's bad pills, there's amazing ones? Wrong, not in NYC.

Oh jeez dude...I'm taking a visit to NYC TOMORROW. You. Are. Wrong. You must not know any of the right people hahaha.

Good pills exist everywhere, but they don't seem to be in abundance in the northeast at all. The problem is that there is no consistency. It's obviously speculation, but I'd say it's a pretty safe bet if you bought 10 random pills in CA and 10 random pills in NY, you'd get more pipes in the NY batch.

Let me guess, your buddies always get the "purest" shit right? Buy in to everything they say? Always "mad pure"... sometimes speedy, sometimes trippy... always awesome though? ...right

Sorry but if you live in the northeast and claim there are amazing pills everywhere you're just wrong. It's not only about who you know... I've bought the best rolls I've ever had off of the same person that sold me the pipiest shits I've ever had. It's a real problem. This shits designed to fool people and amazingly it does a damn good job (seems like its worked pretty well on yourself). I'm not sure why you need to be telling someone they "don't know anything about the scene" and shit when everyone who really knows what MDMA feels like can tell you the northeast (and specifically NYC since it's where we source all of our shit from ME to fucking PA and beyond) is in a bad way right now.
