What happens when you stop taking benzo's?

So taking benzos for anxiety obviously works really good but does this mean you have to take em foreever to deal with the anxiety, or will taking them for a long time cure the problem. If its just temporary wouldnt that mean people with anxiety disorders are stuck on benzos their whole life.

Some kind of strange door opens just below your feet, and you fall down it, and land into the firey depths of hell. Your not safe anywhere's, there is no where to run, no other drugs to take that alleviate the worst symptoms, except more benzo's.8o

I got hydromorphone out of my doctor easier then I did Ativan(Lorazepam). I don't know much about it, but he said it is one of the worst withdrawals medically to treat, besides alcohol, and he does whatever he can to avoid it with his patients.:!

I suggest if your using, that you develope a tapering plan, and in very small incriments. Just MHO.=D

Ive seen ppl addicted to benzos, or take them at least so much that they are walking zombies and slurr all over the place. But I have been taking them for about 6mo. on and off...bc they come once a week or 2 and we only buy 15-25 bars at a time, which last a while. Of course it depends on tolerance etc. But 2mg a day, not everyday, but that much still messes me up pretty bad..

But when we run out and there isnt a contact for 2+wks, i honestly never notice a difference, nor am I jumping for joy when we get them. I feel I use it for recreational purposes, but I also am a little bipolar, so it helps with appetite, sleep, mood control...etc. Maybe the potential will get there if i use more, or use for frequently, but Id rather not. Developing a tolerance for it sucks.

Benzos in no way cure anything, they induce a state of temporary calmed retardation at best. Someone using them for long term anxiety management is just going to end up fucking themself harder than they've been screwed. BZDs were never mean't to be used every day for a long period of time, and from my understanding the main reason the prescribing of them got so out of hand was because everyone was on amphetamines before this..and for anything.

Do you know other substances for anxiety and sleep therapy without the known collateral effects of benzos ?
I would like to switch to a different med, my doc would give me Neurontin but I'm not informed yet about this.

thanks

My life goes straight back to hell!
That's why i have decided to keep using them til' kingdom come. My panic disorder is so severe it would be next to impossible to get anything done without them...

:(

I'm really sorry to hear! Have you tried substituting some doses for antihistamines? Or possibly use antihistamines in conjunction so you can use lower doses of benzos?

100% true. Never do cold turkey, that can fuck you up worse then the pills themselves. As much as you want to get off of them, weening is the way to go. I was in the hospital for days, and I was lucky to even live. I watched a guy DIE from the same shit. One minute he's alright and just a crackpot that never sits still, next he dropped to the floor and was dead.

I now have breathing issues due to trying to cold turkey'ing. My memory is forever swiss cheese. Plus a million and one other things that I wish never happened.

Please be safe <3

I am sorry to hear this! What kind of doses were you taking, if you don't mind me asking?

That really is sad that benzo WD can be fatal, and people have died from it.

Cold turkey is the term usually given to people withdrawing from opiate type dugs, due to the goose pimples that typically follow cessation of said opiate.

This term has been carried across to many other drugs, but the actual goose pimples are not present with benzo withdrawal.

If you are worried about benzo withdrawal then do not take benzos.

The best time to take benzos is when you know the exact origin of your anxiety, and that the reasons for your anxiety are going to be gone in a defined amount of time.

If you think the withdrawal is worth the progress you get on benzos then go for it. Your doctor will guide you through this process.

If you can cope without benzoes i say dont mess with them. i took xanax heavy for a single month strait once and that little amount gave me a wicked little glimpse into the window of what happens, and it was scary, scary.

from what i felt, i would take a opiate detox over a benzo detox by a longshot. besides the fact that benzo detox is dangerous.

What if i take a 2 day break between each use ( 5-10mg valium) would that reduce the chance of me building up a tolerance?

Ofcoarse it would.... Any reduction in frequency and mg that you use will reduce tolerance.
