So taking benzos for anxiety obviously works really good but does this mean you have to take em foreever to deal with the anxiety, or will taking them for a long time cure the problem. If its just temporary wouldnt that mean people with anxiety disorders are stuck on benzos their whole life.

Benzos in no way cure anything, they induce a state of temporary calmed retardation at best. Someone using them for long term anxiety management is just going to end up fucking themself harder than they've been screwed. BZDs were never mean't to be used every day for a long period of time, and from my understanding the main reason the prescribing of them got so out of hand was because everyone was on amphetamines before this..and for anything.

Benzo's generally aren't prescribed "for life". If prescribed daily, many people will only be on them for a month or so. Withdrawals will only occur if you've been on them long enough to become physically dependent. I've been taking clonazepam daily for 7 years, and if I stop cold turkey, I have serious seizures. I'm talking life threatening ones.

Sweet P, I don't know where you're from, and I'm not trying to discredit you, but I know SO many people prescribed benzos MULTIPLE times daily for LONG periods of time. Namely Xanax, some Valium, me Klonopin (once nightly, but I take about thrice weekly 
), it seems to me more often than not this is the way it's done. Not saying it's right. My cousin went through HELL getting off 3fuckingMgs daily of Xanax when she got pregnant.
She took em for anxiety. She is not cured. She still basically fiends for benzos, but has gotten a better grip on her life than she had before. I don't know what the answer is to the OPs question, but they didn't "cure" my cousin or anyone else I know. As I said, most are still on em, seemingly for life.
Edit: I got my script when kicking a vicodin habit YEARS ago ('04?). Still on 'em, but like I said I don't take em every night.

I know - I'm one of them. I've been on clonazepam daily for seven years (currently 6mg's a day) and diazepam for about six months (currently 20mg's a day). However, it's highly recommended in the medical community that patients don't stay on benzos long-term. I think six weeks is the maximum recommended period, before the patient is re-assessed. After that time, some patients may not need to continue on benzos, while others will.

Seizures, most of the other effects you won't notice when you are busy being in and out of the hospital for seizures.
Doctors have gotten sloppy, they prescribe benzos for long term when benzos are meant for short term.

^ I agree with both of you. The 6 week reassessment is a good idea, and Drs have gotten sloppy, but that could be a reaction to them crackin the fuck down on opiates and amphs.
I usually don't have such self control, I abuse just about every substance put in front of me, but I've been lucky with benzos. I never saw the enjoyment in them. They work very well for EXACTLY what they're prescribed to do (stop RLS and help me sleep). My Dr knows he Rxs me 3-months worth and I come in twice a year, that could have something to do with why he continues to Rx them, cuz honestly when I need em I need em, and if I didn't have em Id turn to something worse 90% of the time.
And for dangerchamber: I'm pretty sure It's not the type of euphoria you're thinking of, it's more of the loony bin laughter type euphoria I think.

Benzo's are teh shit. I nearly died because of that shit. Never again. it fucked me up mentally, physically and I almost died. I rather have anxiety then take Clon again.

100% true. Never do cold turkey, that can fuck you up worse then the pills themselves. As much as you want to get off of them, weening is the way to go. I was in the hospital for days, and I was lucky to even live. I watched a guy DIE from the same shit. One minute he's alright and just a crackpot that never sits still, next he dropped to the floor and was dead.
I now have breathing issues due to trying to cold turkey'ing. My memory is forever swiss cheese. Plus a million and one other things that I wish never happened.

Whenever I go without my benzos (either clonazepam or temazepam) for more than 24-36 hours, I start getting non-stop tremors and leg/arm jerks at random intervals. Also, increased anxiety. It sucks, but I've only been on them for 7-8 months or so.
