Time, and our particular personality thinking patterns, are really tied to this physical body and the Earth/Sun relationship. Every experience I've ever had suggests there really isn't much to be afraid of, especially when you surrender from the body as you do going into OBE's or mystical experiences. Once you let go of the fear of death (of the body), and you enter that non-corporeal state where you realize you are not the body, then what is there to be afraid of? You have just proven that you are immortal in some capacity.

The idea of eternity linked to pain is a human conception. It's when we try to project our humanness onto infinity that it makes us recoil, but you can't get to infinity with the body-mind anyway.. going through the eye of the needles means abandoning the body and all the crap we think is important. And from all accounts of those who've been through it, mystically or NDE, the dropping of the body/mind is pure ecstasy.. it's the clinging that causes the pain.

I like that. But the persistent myths of "if you commit suicide you will experience it over and over forever" and such still haunt my highly manipulated catholic brain

Fucking RC Church. This is why I despise it so deeply, poisoning peoples minds with unnecessary fear and guilt. Especially when it comes to death.

I was lucky, my parents let me form my own beliefs and conclusions. One of the reasons why I experienced OBE's and astral projection in my early childhood.. there was no ideological constraint, the only limiting factor was my own fear and curiosity.

You see a parallel with sleep paralysis and people getting fearful, thinking of the 'old hag' or aliens or the shadow man etc. I see that as similar to the death fear. They are all ideas and projections, which ultimately you just have to walk through. I think with death though that during the dying process these ideas naturally evaporate away, peeling like the layers of an onion, as the body-mind begins to fall inwards and discards the unnecessary. So the fear naturally evaporates, the mind becomes extremely logical and single pointed.. there is no room for all that superstitious crap.. only the immediacy of your experience.

I believed for a long time that getting to grips with the sleep thing was training for the death experience too. From my own personal experiences I felt this. Funnily enough, a few weeks ago I pulled out a book I hadn't read, about the Tibetan's and dream/sleep yoga.. and this is precisely the conclusion they came too. It can be used as training to prepare for death.

As for suicide, there's no reason for it and no reason to fear it either. Keeping the plebs afraid of death, afraid of exiting too early, is good for tax revenue intake

yea I am not the catholic you would think lol I got my "worst case scenario" kit packed.

You are not wrong that shit runs deep. I was also allowed to come to my own conclusions but being in a catholic family -- I have my great grandmothers scapular on right now. On the other hand what kind of forgiving god would send an 'average' sinner to hell.
Than there is the fact it is a dead knock of the "Horace" version. A serious lack of proof that Jesus EXISTED let alone was the son of god. (Not pre-history at all).

I figure be a decent person and do unto others and whatever happens afterlife happens. Right now I gotta handle life in the way I see most rationally fit.

Edit * thank you for the bill hicks skit! I will lay into the church pretty hard with the crusades the pedo priests etc etc --- I guess what it boils down to is the family is from Ireland and you either a catholic or a protty (there at that time) and you best be ready to declare quickly and pull quicker. (not that I was alive)
