I'm posting this to try and figure out what in the world I just went through. It should be noted that I weigh around 170lbs, and have extensive use with Adderall XR/IR, with ROA being about a 50/50 split of Oral and Insufflation.

Timeline:

8:00AM, Day 1
The day of my AP Calc AB exam. I take three 30mg Adderall XR orally on a close to empty stomach.

7:00PM, Day 1
At this point the Adderall should have started wearing off, yet I only feel the focused feeling fade, along with my desire to read/work on everything. All physical symptoms remain: Sweating, hyperthermia, vasoconstriction, dry mouth, awake (I wasn't 'energized', but I definitely was not tired.)

12:30AM, Day 2
I make an attempt to fall asleep, as I felt somewhat sober.

3:30AM, Day 2
After 3 hours of no luck, I decide to get out of bed and do some late work I need to turn in, since I need to wake up in 3 hours anyways. All physical symptoms still present, same intensity.

6:00AM, Day 2
This is when I usually wake up, so I go to take a shower. Sleep deprivation is noticeable, train of thought is hard to keep going, speech is somewhat slurred, and my balance is offset. Once in the bathroom, I notice my pupils are fully dilated and I begin having some auditory hallucinations. Once in the shower, my hyperthermia is obvious as I turn the temperature knob all the way to cold yet it still feels warm. Also.. my man parts are still shrunk from the vasoconstriction.

8:00AM, Day 2
A full day has passed. At this point I figure this must be an episode of amphetamine psychosis due to acute overdose. The auditory hallucinations get much stronger, along with some visual hallucinations of breathing static objects, pupils still fully dilated in bright classroom. Sleep deprivation seems to be amplified by the Adderall still in my system as listening to normal paced speech becomes near impossible to follow.

10:00AM, Day 2
Pupils begin to return to normal size, Adderall symptoms begin to weaken.

11:00AM, Day 2
Time to eat my lunch. Once I'm done I feel much better, but still feel slight effects.

2:00PM, Day 2
Doing some light work, reorganizing the tool boxes in the ceramics studio, during which I begin sweating even more on my face, back, and pits.

4:30Pm, Day 2
I'm writing this right now. Most symptoms from the Adderall have dissipated, but mild hyperthermia and vasoconstriction remain.

It should be noted, from 8:00AM to 3:00PM on Day 2, my face was a little red, and quite warm to the touch. Also, I'm not on any other medications.

Now my question: What kind of reaction caused this? I've taken Adderall 200+ times in doses larger than 30mg, yet this is the first time I've felt the 'high' go away while the physical symptoms remained, let alone past the point of 10 hours. Thanks.

First off, have you been taking adderall in the days previous to this experience? If so, then there might still have been amphetamine in your system when you took your dose. Also, the dose itself is an extremely large dose with regards medically recommended dosages. Why would you take 90mg XR as a starting dose? Either you have the tolerance of a speed freak or you are very over confident with regards to drugs. It's no bloody surprise you were still stimulated 24 hours after administration; you took 90 mg XR! I'm assuming you aren't a speed freak as you seem to be composing yourself fairly well, so i'll assume your tolerance isn't high enough to warrant a dose as yours.

I'll give you a quick once-over on amphetamine with regards to effects and half-life. Yes, you may not feel high after a certain point but that is only the central nervous system stimulation fading. Amphetamine's half-life in the body is something like 12 hours, so obviously a dose as large as yours is going to exert an effect exceeding the basic 8 hours that adderall is supposed to work for. What was keeping you up was peripheral nervous stimulation from all that amphetamine still in your body. There wasn't a specific reaction to blame for your experience. The dose was too high! Something ventured, Something gained.

Adderall/racemic amphetamine is garbage. L-amphetamine lasts longer than D-amphetamine and provides serious PNS side effects. 90mg of XR adderall is enough to keep one up for days. I've only had one state of mania/psychosis from amphetamines and that was from Adderall when I was training my ass off for war in high school. I won't take anything but d-meth/amphetamine as I am rx dextroamphetamine and desoxyn. If you have a RX than switch to dexedrine/dextrostat or desoxyn and your body will thank you. Stay safe, stay informed.
