What great band have you just discovered?

Patrick Watson - recent winner of Canada's coveted Polaris prize (having defeated some of my favorite albums of the year, I figured I should investigate this d00d). Multi-instrumental, lush indie pop schtick that actually doesn't seem to get old to me . . . good stuff kids, good stuff for the ears.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Fucking incredible stuff, I don't know how they ever got past me. I've been listening to "Abbatoir Blues" nonstop for the last 2 weeks. (Helped get me through some nasty opiate w/d's =P)

US Maple
...specifically the latest album "Purple on Time"
...but the band is, all around, pretty much teh shit
...terrible reviews all over the internet, which makes it even better that they're the fuckin shit

considering your musical taste, i think i very well may know you. Shelly.

New Bloods:

Play that violin, girlfriend! :D

They actually remind me of a lot of late 70's/early 80's rhythmic post punk stuff like Kleenex, Bush Tetras etc

^^ I just found ween

EPIC band, really great musicians. :) You need to catch them live if you can, they're on tour right now.

Hmmm, I haven't really found any new artists to get into lately outside of really getting into dnb, might have to read through this thread in a little bit for ideas.

i remember reading this thread a while back and discovering ween. I have recently discovered Sigur Ros. and before that The Good, The Bad & The Queen. Sigur Ros are really good. very glad i found them.

these two bands are new to me and refuse to vacate my playlists:

nine black alps
they are kind of a grungy brit-rock band. melodic and noisy at the same time.
i've been listening to an album called "everything is".

last days of april
this group might be too poppy for some of you. bouncy indie goodness from sweden.
the album i like is "ascend to the stars".

both of these bands write really catchy tunes and that's probably why i can't stop listening to them.

%)

^ i'll step up the posting in honor of my favorite tub of crap :)

this guy is probably a bit more on the electronic side, but so is a lot of contemporary music so i'm going to mention him anyway. i got my hands on some of his stuff a while back, but i'm just now starting to fully appreciate it:

karsh kale
this music is part classical indian, part drum and bass, part asian chillout, and a whole lot more. if you like talvin singh, thievery corp, amon tobin, or anything else in the electronic/world beat hybrid category, you will probably dig this. start with an album called "liberation" and see what you think...
