What drug is most suitable for philosophical insight?

What drug has immediate effects that are most conducive to exploring philosophical matters? I know most people who've written philosophical writings didn't use any drugs, and they're certainly not required. But some seem to fit well with thinking deeply about the nature of existence, and leave you with enough lasting pleasant memories for you to reflect on. Which talking plants or chemicals have said the most to you?

Varying doses of LSD and Mushrooms seem to be the most popular drugs to use for this purpose. Some people like DMT for such exploration. Many psychedelics have the potential to give philosophical insight. Your set of mind and your setting is just as important as the drug taken with such purposes.

I would say LSD. It can be quite a shock, though, as it leads you to experience philosophy rather than just think about it. This can lead to metaphysical crises.

I would say psychadelics in general but focusing more on lsd and psilocybin but a more obvious answer would be just good ol' marijuana I suppose.

definitely weed... it don't last long, but it sure does change your perspective and thought pattern. I'll will go with that, but also acid. For me, I get most valuable thought out of weed after it's subsides. Salvia at low dose would be also great.

Shrooms. Good ol' mother nature provided them, as opposed to man made LSD (which I'm not against).

I'd just take the natural substances Ms Nature provided for me and use them for their full potential.

^^^ Actually, that would be LSA. Little bit of a difference there. LSD is semi-synthetic.

I'd have to say personally LSD, and MDMA.

The distinction between natural and artificial is man-made.
You should reject it because it is not natural. :)

haha...dont break down the logic there...it'll drive you nuts.
you could write to Godel about it though.

Well, I consider shrooms more natural than LSD.

Shrooms you just pick up, while LSD isn't something you can find on the ground.

It just seems that these natural products are so much more helpful than previously thought. For instance, marijuana is so helpful, as it fights many illnesses modern technology can't deal with. I'm all for LSD, but shrooms are "more natural" and more easily accessable.

How much different are LSD and shrooms? Intensity, would you say, to help thought process be more creative?

Actually certain strains of ergot under the right conditions will produce LSD.

Any distinction between LSD being more natural than mushrooms is all mental. If you view something to be less natural then that is how it will be percieved when tripping.

LSD occurs naturally within certain fungi.

How is that any more or less natural than psilocybin?

^^^ Which fungi?

Personally mushrooms are too much of a brain fuck. LSD has always been really smooth for me, but psilocybin just feels really edgy to me. I prefer tha smooth trip.=D

Ergot for LSD
P. Cubensis and many other mushrooms for Psilocybin and Psilocin

I'm going to have to disagree with whoever said weed. That's about as useful as beer. Not to mention, habitual use is a great way to make yourself stop thinking. While it can open some doors at first, i don't really think it's all that much of a powerful tool.

I'd have to go with psychedelics (lsd, shrooms, peyote) on this one as well.

^ I agree. Although when I smoke I start thinking a lot and it seems useful, I never remember any of it when I come down. It just messes up your short term memory. So whatever you realize you also forget. At least that is how it works for me.

Your mileage may vary with weed, but that can be said about any substance. Weed can make you unproductive and make you stop thinking to a degree from habitual use. Any psychedelic if abused will stop having positive affects on you. Unabusive careful use is key for getting apositive meaningful experience time after time.

I LOVE that! Fantastic!

Any headbendification device teaches me about my body, mind and surroundings. My preference (as mentioned above) is LSD.
But safe surroundings are of a major importance. Any vulnerabilities, conscious or not, can lead to incredibly frightening experiences, but they pass (more or less).
