I'm gonna start taking valiums next week to fall asleep; because i have really bad insomnia and anxiety. What dose should i start? I have 0 tolerance to this drug. Also by april of i take valium once a day, what do you think my dosage will be? Because i heard tolerance builds up pretty quick.

if you have no tolerance to benzos (valium, xanax, klonopin) than just a 10mg dose of valium is enough to sedate you to the point you may not want to drive or perform tasks, as you will be a bit too confused, relaxed, and cozy, 5mg is a good dose to relax you but to the point where you aren't to sedated and clumsy as 10mg can make you. however everyone is different. start off with 5mg on an empty stomach, effects should start within 10-15mins. they say 10mg of valium is equilivant to .5mg xanax/.5mg klonopin, however i beg to differ, i feel 10mg of valium will effect you as the same as 1mg of xanax will, not .5mg , if your trying to compare.... Anyhow tolerance builds quick if taken everyday at increasing doses. benzos really aren't meant to be taken consistantly everyday like some medications, it's generally an "as needed" medication that you would take when you feel a panic attack coming on, or for sleep, if taken for example xanax 4x a day everyday, you will become immune to it and build a tolerance and need to up your dose. if you take valium once a day, the same dose, you should be borderline good, of course you wont feel the effects as good as the 1st time you take it, but im sure u will feel relief if only taken once a day, valium has a long half life too so im pretty sure it's effects will drag on to the next day. So if your trying to sleep, 10mg is the ideal dose of Valium to take, that's the dose that is given when taking an MRI to relax your muscles and nerves. So again 10mg is ideal for sleep, if taken everynight you should benefit. dont forget you will build a dependency physically if you do this longer than 2 weeks, and withdrawl can cause at severe cases seizures, coma, deaths..you should be fine, just try not to take it everynight for the sake of dependency and POSSIBILITY of tolerance

The one the doctor recommended. Or let me guess, your self prescribing? As to your other question: who knows.
yes im self prescribing. I have thought about it and it looks like valium is the only solution. Although the doctor prescribed me Atarax

10mg if you've never taken benzos before. Valium isn't a good sleep med however as it interferes with deep sleep.

it doesn't build that fast if you use it for medicinal purposes and not to get really high. You should try 2.5mg first, if it doesn't work well then there's no harm as you can just take another 2.5. I can feel 10mg but my daily dose is 5mg to keep me from withdrawing. For insomnia i think zolpidem/zoplicone would be more effective, valium has never really made me sleepy. It's tough to say what your dosage will be by April, but i'd think 10mg would still be effective unless you end up abusing it. Also watch out for benzo dependency, it's a nightmare for most people. Valium also messes with your sleep cycle.

zolpidem(ambien) IMO is horrible for sleep, it doesnt even make me sleep or tired, and when i finally get to sleep, i get nightmare induced sleep paralyisis/ if your gonna use a benzo for sleep, i reccomend either Ativan or Klonopin, many doctors RX Ativan for sleep too, all my docors that have had me on Klonopin say it has a great quality to help you sleep. Temazepam is a benzo that is strictly given out for sleep only, howver i feel it doesnt even help with sleep, just makes ya euphoric as any other benzo, Z-drug. i can guarantee that if you take a seroquel or Trazadone at night time you will be ou tlike a lightbulb. i feel uncomfy talking bout benzos for sleep, but they all can put u to sleep at a good enough dose, which just causes problems (dependency, addiction, tolerance) xanax will put you to sleep at 1-2mg at bedtime...

Valium's good for anxiety. Unless your sleeping problems are related to anxiety then I would seek another benzo ie. temazepam.
If you're self prescribing be careful as temazepam will make you it's bitch...very short half life and it literally numbs you to everything which I found to be a very good feeling.
I self prescribed and am going through wd's atm and honestly just go to your doctor and sort out a treatment plan. wd's an absolute nightmare.

The WD from benzos are HORRIBLE, you DO NOT want to get addicted to this shit. Anyway I'd have to agree with the above posters, well most of them lol. Start off with 10mgs if you have no tolerance, very nice sedated feeling. Wish I had no tolerance again haha:)
