What does the drug Dextropropoxyphene do?

I haven't used this drug myself, but a quick google search revealed to me that it is an opi, so presumably you can get high off it.

I think laCster had some fairly recently, might be worth checking if hes online at some point and asking him about it.

The risk of death associated with co-proxamol overdose seems to be higher than for either tricyclic antidepressants or paracetamol. The drug is a combination analgesic containing paracetamol and the opioid dextropropoxyphene and is available only with a prescription. But some say co-proxamol is no better than full strength paracetamol at relieving pain and is known to be very toxic in overdose.

I literally cannot find any favourable scientific studies or news articles on dextropropoxyphene. Even a bluelight search shows a total lack of serious recreational use. Well except for this...I guess there's always one.

From what I can gather it's a specific enantiomer of propoxyphene. I got 100 mg darvocet pills from a dentist once, but I don't remember if it was just the dextro isomer or a racemic mix. Either way, 300 mg gave me a decent opiate buzz when I had little to no tolerance. However, it is one of the most toxic opiates, and since you need to take such large amounts of it to get any psychoactive affects it's not the best choice. But with no tolerance you should be able to catch a buzz off it.

It's an extremely weak opioid pain medication that has been taken off the market in some countries due to serious cardiovascular side effects. It is very weak and not worth it. We also don't allow questions asking if a drug is recreational or not (in other words, asking if you can "get high off it").

I'm going to close this thread. Don't waste your time with dextropropoxyphene and/or propoxyphene. The links JSPete provided are excellent reading.
