What does acetone taste like

I know this a silly question, but I ask cause I did a 100% acetone wash on my defatted poppy pod extract and what I ended up with was a insanely bitter tiny little bit of what I started with, if acetone isn’t bitter then I think I found a way to remove like 95% of the bullshit out of poppy pod extract , so is acetone bitter ?
 
No its not distinctly bitter tasting, unless it has a bittering agent added to it (as in the case of nail polish removers).

But even better, if you have some acetone, taste a dab of it, then you'll know definitively what it tastes like
 
Found the MSDS and Turned out there is a bittering agent, denatured benzene. But I also tasted the stuff the acetone didn’t pick up and it’s lost all the bitter taste, so I’m thinking it’s a combination of all the good stuff being pulled and the bittering agent, I’m gonna get some different acetone and try again

Yea I am curious to see if acetone will pull the alkaloids too.

Just know benzene is one you want to stay away from, it’s a cancer causing agent.

What’s kinda trippin me out is if the bitterness is being caused by the benzene then both parts of the extract should be bitter, but the stuff the acetone didn’t dissolve have zero bitter taste, or maybe there just wasn’t enough acetone left in the undissolved stuff to notice , I’m lookin for some good acetone when I get it I’ll try again
 
Acetone doesn't last long at room temp, even when it's diluted. Just let the liquid evaporate and then the acetone will be gone.

Denatured benzene or denatonium benzoate? The second is a bittering agent and one of the more bitter compounds known, and I've never heard of denatured benzene.

Pure acetone should be mildly safe to taste. It's produced by the human body in ketosis and has mildly cns depressing properties. It can be quite an irritant, and is very dangerous to aspirate (as it can dissolve some of the fats in your cells, you really don't want that happening in your lungs).
 
It burns mucosae membranes....not of any four tastes....it's like acid in the mouth....try,if u want on tip on ur tongue(without ingest it ofcourse,'cause it could be deadly.
 
To get out residual solvent, dry "completely" and then spray with water (or grain alcohol) and then dry again.

Anyway, you found a bittering agent.

I have evaporated both pod tea and seed tea. The pod tea gave a "grade D- Opium" which gave a flavorful hit or so and then left a bunch of dross. Wheatgrass juicer on pods was the same, Entheogen Review not withstanding. Not worth it. Eating it was nice.
Strangely, the seed tea left much less material per dose. The material was more powdery and less like a black gum, and it gave an OK buzz. It wasn't enough to be fun, but it wasn't too terrible. It would be fun to take that stuff one step further, I think.
 
We have drifted somewhat OT. Unless you specifically buy acetone from a chemical supplier, it will have a bitterant. denatonium benzoate is soluble in methanol and isopropanol (I didn't check exact figures but they are easy to find on the interweb).

I don't know how much material you have, but the steps to isolate morphine SHOULD also work.

As you know, if you dissolve opium in hot water, strain it and add calcium hydroxide (lime), calcium morphinate is formed (drops out as solid).

From memory I’d say isopropanol is more disgusting than acetone. Isopropanol doesn’t get you drunk btw, think the oh group must be terminal to act. N-propanol is active however.
 
Well I just got my new lb yesterday so I’ll have some extract to play with by tomorrow, gonna try a couple different thing from a long soak to warm acetone and maybe dissolve in acetic acid first then dry it out and do a acetone extract
