I dont know how i feel about the whole issue of "contact highs". I've never been around people smoking up and not joined in. Anyone have any insight or personal experience on wether a "contact high" is an actual inebriation or just a placebo?

One time I was at my uncles garage and he smoked a bowl, I didn't. He had a fan on that was blowing in my general direction. 20 minuties ago I found myself squinting a little and I realized that I was as high as I would have been if I took like 1 hit of weed.

imaginary that's all it is. do people get headaches when around another that is in the throes of a migraine?

I don't see how that analogy applies because migraines don't give off smoke that others can inhale.

"Contact highs" exist, but I feel like it's more of a threshold experience than a high.

Think about a joint, which is burning constantly throughout a session. Some of that smoke is bound to escape into the air without first traveling through your respiratory system. Without traveling through your respiratory system, psychoactive compounds will be be a part of the smoke for a short amount of time. By breathing, you will most likely inhale some of these cannabinoid escapists.

Well according to my friend they exist.
Me and a few bros were smoking a J, but one of us didn't want to (he has asthma and was worried smoking weed would fuck his throat up). Yet after we threw the roach and all realised we were super baked, he was saying he felt pretty high as well. It seemed believable, it was pretty dank and we were smoking in a pill box type thing; so the smoke made a smog around us. But you don't know if it's just 'cos the person feels left out and wants to pretend to be in on the fun. Or just placebo effect. But I don't want to doubt a friend; so I guess it does exists.

Also; don't worry, we've managed to convince him that smoking won't set off his asthma again and he toking with us once more. :)

lol idk never been contact high b4 i always smoke regardless of whos weed it is. ;)

Extremely unlikely unless you're in a very confined space with tons of smoke for a good amount of time. So no, being in a room where people smoke a joint or a bowl or something is not going to get you high.

not chemically, no. but human psychology is pretty powerful, and being around other people who are in an altered mindstate can also alter yours.

It's hard not to act a little high when everyone else is. The good vibes just radiate off, and people in a social group tend to mirror the mood of the situation. Psychological conformity, if you will.

don't really believe in it. i've been in small rooms which people where hotboxing with bud. i couldn't smoke but i'm sure i got plenty of it inhaled. i was tested later that night and passed cleanly.

therefore i doubt the amount smoke inhaled by a contact high isn't enough to get you high

what you're feeling is just placebo, prob as a result of the vibes of other ^^

^Flase-negatives exist.
Also; if you were drinking or something like that you may be lucky enough to detox yourself. As I doubt you inhaled a massive amount anyway; but still possibly enough to get high. Although you never said if you felt high or not, so I can't assert anything.

However, don't people say Cannabis smoke goes "stale" after 8-10 seconds? If this is true then I guess they don't exist, since you're not inhaling the smoke the second it's burnt, but merely breathing in second hand smoke that's been stored in someone lungs for a time and then left to hand around in the air for a bit.

Soo many people who don't know what a contact high is. :/

Getting high (or lackof) from other peoples smoke is NOT what this threads about.

haha thats what i was thinking.

But as far as getting high from second hand smoke, it is possible. One time me and a friend were smoking in a very small car, and had another guy who doesnt smoke in the backseat. We were fuckin with him and taking HUGE hits and then blowing them right at him to the point where his head would almost disappear for a couple seconds. He was definitely ripped when we were done it was funny we went to dennys and he was eating pancakes with his hands shoveling them in and sayin weird shit, but to this day hell deny that smoke did anything.

It's most likely mostly placebo - the vibes as someone previously mentioned - but it can be actual intoxication if the room/car/phonebox ha been hotboxed - passive weed smoking.

I have had this on many occasions, in the past 4 years since I cut down - sometimes I just won't smoke, but can appreciate hanging around people who are still.

It' a nice high, although the comedown is a lot less worth it, than if you were blazing.

Thanks for the insight people, i think the amount of THC and other cannabinoids in sidestrteam smoke has to be in the lowest low amount you need to get to the threshold of stoned...the reason i started the thread is because of the wildly varying claims of people iv'e known. some seem to get just as blazed as if they had smoked up themselves and others dont feel a thing...
