what do you prefer to pack bowls with? nugs or shake?

I always thought "shake" referred to the bottom of the bag shit that's left over, usually containing bits of stem, leaves and dry bud. *shrugs*

I know what you're intending to say though, and I prefer busted up weed over nugs in a bowl.
 
A small nug at the bottom of the bowl if not using a filter to help prevent scooby snacks (thats what the stuff that gets in your mouth is called around here) and then smaller stuff on top of that. It doesn't matter if it starts out as nugs or shake since it's going to be little pieces in the bowl.
 
I only smoke out of my bong and I always break up nugs with my fingers and pack the bowl...pretty much no thc lost.
 
Shake is simply preground nugs. Be thankful someone already did the work for you and don't complain. Not you OP just general you. I can't tell you how many times people bitch about shake. Some even give it away. You can bet your ass I'm first in that line :D

I would rather do the work myself, and skip the whole grinder thing. Yeah if you have a nice grinder you get back the keif you're losing but all I have is a shitty plastic grinder so unless im rolling a j or blunt (which is never), i just break up nugs by hand and then carefully rub all the thc that's on my fingers on top, so virtually none is wasted. Sometimes its trickier when I got real sticky buds though =D

hey you guys call it scooby snacks too thats cool. but yah I always throw a chunker on the bottom then rip the rest of it up pretty fine, burns a lot smoother and you get milkyer hits then if you were to just toss a bud in and torch away.
 
WHen i buy buds its always bud w no shake, so i toss it into my cosmic grinder and tap it out. If i slam the bottom part on the table i get all the little crystals in a yellow pile and can actually roll a little ball of hash lol.
 
I usually just toss my nugs into a coffee grinder and bust 'em up. it makes personal rips outta the bong easier. and if you suck slow enough, you dont waste any at all! and that way, i can collect my crystals and save 'em for a huge ball of hash later. its not like the weeds not gunna get you high anymore. it will just be less effective. people around here sell shake at half price.. i dont mind tho. its all weed none the less. if its got crystal on it, im buyin it (weed only!!)
 
I use small sciscors to break up my nugs and then put them in the bowl, as for shake, I rarely ever get weed with shake already in it, just buds/nugs whatever you wanna call them. Some shady people will sell good nugs and toss in shake from some shwag weed or lower grade weed, and add that shake to the weight of the bag, and it can easily add up , but I get most of my buds from growers and they use the shake, water leaves etc.. to make bubble hash and shit like that out of it..

my problem with shake is that it's often sifted for kief prior to sale. i want my primo nug STICKY with trichomes and resinous as fuck when i tear into it.

imo, shake is definitely preferred in joints for ease of draw but in a bowl it must be as sticky as possible.
