What do you like best about the North American location where you live?

Long Island

-I can drive to NYC in 45 mins (as long as there's no traffic)

-or if I decide I don't want to drive (gonna be drining in the city or whatnot) i can just hop on a train and not have to worry about a thing

-Beaches, I'm surrounded by them....not a beach person but if I was I have my choice. North shore beaches with the little waves, or south shore beaches with the big fun waves

-I got the city to the west of me and total country farm land to the far east of me

-So convenient....I can get to CT in a little over an hour, Jersey in an hour or less, Philly in 2 hours, Mass in 3 hours, everything is near by.

-If I don't want to drive to CT, there's always the ferry!

-The Hamptons

There's more I'm sure but that's what I can pull off the top of my head right now :)

Isn't this in Iowa? I know for sure that I saw this in Iowa on my way to Kansas City recently. Perhaps there are two of them?

I took that photo. I am thinking the place in Iowa is his birthplace and it is more of a commemorative thing than his actual grave. Either way, there was both a gravestone and museum.
 
alasdairm: what people would be getting counted twice? lots of people go for more than one day, but the vast majority only come for one day or maybe two. On any random day i'd venture that 85,000 *different* people come in. Over 30% of attendees are from out of state and 30% are from outside of Milwaukee. Even on weak days there are upwards of 11,000 or so in the grounds at any given time. I've stayed there through thunderstorms, hail, blizzards (heh, Wisconsin... maybe not blizzards... :)) There's ALWAYS a lot of people there. Be assured, this thing is fucking huge. The grounds are well over 90,000 square feet, and it is PACKED every night of the week, and all day on the weekends. It's so big that VH1 has done specials on it and even set up a stage there. There are over 1,000 bands and performances each year. Hell, the fucking "kid zone" playground *contains* a 4,000 square foot playscape. Don't knock it til' ya try it! Summerfest is one of the best experiences you can ever have!
 
bout the only good thing bout where i live is the Fair that goes on the 3rd week of Oct. It's 4 days long and we have ppl comin' from Washington to Maine that come to this lil ass town...other than the fair this place is pretty borin'
 
The area I live it has the best of all worlds. We have city life (granted it's not NYC-but it's still a big city, with lots of money to be made :-). Then we have the burbs (of course). We have the river valley which is where all of the nice houses are located and it's very isolated and beautiful. (A lot of my favorite parks are in the valley). We also have beach life and farmland. What more could you ask for??
 
i was born and raised in the atlanta suburbs. a lot has changed over my 27 years here, but it's home and as much as i want to leave i can't.

it's crowded
it's busy
it's fucking HOT-lanta
the braves were the best MLB team of the 90s
the thrashers are taking off
it's become a hotbed for soccer
it's green
not 45 mins north, we have our "mountains"
there's always something to do
very diverse culture
it's SOUTHERN Y'ALL :p
 
While I don't live in North America (Central America is more like it), I like Costa Rica because:

- You're only an hour away from some beach, and the others are not that far away either
- The weather, while sometimes a bit too hot is usually warm and sunny
- Rainforests
- Cheap booze :)
 
I live in a college town about an hour from Chicago and I love it! Very close to Milwaukee (summerfest does rock, I must agree) and in the center of some great nightlife. People around here are mostly nice (haven't you seen those "chicago attitude" ad champaigns?!) and our food is incomparable: deep dish pizza to be exact. You just can't beat the Windy City.
 
I live in washington state and my favorite way to use the state is backpacking and hiking in Mount Rainier National Park, or within the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area.

I have maps and maps with thousands of miles of hikings trails and back country travel guides. It is fun to go wig out in the woods for a week, smoke lots of chronic and scramble some boulder fields or something, tons of fun in a group. 8)
 
I'm near Cleveland.
I like Chenga World. Other bmx'ers (flatlanders like myself especially) and skaters all know and appreciate the indoor spot for the winter.
 
eastern long island---born and raised in queens I am not far from the old neigborhood yet as I am not a kid anymore I am enjoying a more polite slower paced existance with a view of conneticut across the sound right from my window. If a want a more exciting night out I'm just an hour from NYC but find lately that there is enough great restaurants and things to do right by my house.

We here in SoCal have amazing beaches (although there can be some dirty water the closer you get to the LA Harbor and Santa Monica Harbor), amazing night life, great mountains and hiking trails, super cool desert, great people, and great food.

A lot of the time the smog, smug, and traffic can get annoying, as well as the up-tight attitude that is found in certain areas (oh and the white trash), but for the most part SoCal is amazing.

NorCal > SoCal, but thats a total different story.
