What do you do for a living?

I work in retail just to make sure there is reliable income for my necessities, but my purpose in life is learning and teaching so I freelance write and speak out as an activist on many topics I believe in.

I used to work for some large, search browser company.....
Lost my Job due to the economy

Cant pass a background check now, so i am unemployed currently....

transportation and facilitys for a larger assisted living community. then i do djing and sound tech stuff for various events and people around town at night and on weekends.

I play online blackjack every month for a few days and in between time I sell parts for (mainly) classic cars that I can source through trade contacts from a job I had about six years ago.

It's terribly boring, which is where the risk lies as it's easy to go up 100% on your initial float and then reason "Oh well, this money isn't real yet so I might as well put it all on the next hand" and throw your carefully formulated strategy out the window.

My float is minimum of $1000, so you can see where things might go wrong fast.

I pull big GBP most every month, with the exception of February when I was drunk, high and sleep deprived and I lost 10k.

However, I spend wildly and have no appreciative improvement in quality of life from when I was barely getting 800 per month a few years ago.

I'm studying from home also, and plan to begin working as a teacher next year.

I just got promoted in my company 1 week ago, from the call centre to HR Advisor. Pretty neat jump ;).

Although in fairness, I have one subject to go in my HR course, lots of executive recruitment experience, and even though I've only worked for the company for three months this time round, I worked with them several years ago - so had already made some connections with the HR Manager, who told me she had me in mind for a HR role, as soon as a position became available. Which, evidently, it did.

YAY! Sometimes going, like 3 steps back in your career when things are looking glum CAN actually turn out for the best.

So anyone who's copped a kick in the ass due to the recession or otherwise, and is feeling pretty shit about where they currently stand career wise; just be patient, and hopefully you'll encounter something better than you expected, sooner than you expected :).
