What do you do for a living?

Why don't the "Students" say what they are studying? It would at least give an indication of where they are headed...

Sorry, I'm trying to get some inspiration for my own career choices.

I go to school full time (ouch!) to study philosphy (why?) and English Literature (why???).

Mmmm...if you're asking this about majors that aren't lucrative in the job market, why not consider changing majors?

I just got a job as a teacher, but for the last two years pretty much all I've done was watch tv and draw. I had a lot of free time because I wasn't attending class (art history) that much.

So I'm not the only unemployed bum here, I guess. Frustrating, because I have my M.Sc., but haven't found a job since I completed it nine months ago. :/ I should have gone to school in a useful field with a higher demand, rather than one I was genuinely interested in (biology).

Are you kidding me? I'm so envious! If I had a M.Sc. I'd wake up every day and be like, YEAH BITCH I HAVE A M.SC!! I'M GONNA GO WRITE MY MOM AN E-MAIL JUST SO I CAN SIGN MY NAME WITH IT!!

Haha, seriously though.. Can you imagine what the arts and social science students are doing right now? Biology probably has the most practical application of all University studies, and even among the sciences it ranks high.

Imagine if you had a M.A. in art history, or 19th century literature. Imagine a MSSc in Mayan history.

I bet your biology degree is starting to look pretty nice now eh.
 
i work construction-roofing-painting-carpentry. i want to goto school though, maybe for something art+computers or neurobiology/psycology
i need to step it up, 10.50 an hour sucks
 
^ Keep your head up. How hard have you been trying to find a job? I know that a lot of first-world economies aren't in the best places right now, but there still is a demand for scientists in many areas. Have you looked into possibly relocating?

Thanks. I've been looking pretty damned hard. I've been networking with everyone I knew from school and people they know, cold calls/applications, applying to job postings (all TWO in my field since I graduated, plus others that were other vaguely related lab technician jobs), several recent graduate hiring programs, and even trying to volunteer for organizations I'm interested in, to get my foot in the door.

The trouble is, my area of expertise [I'd rather not say what that is, because there are only so many recent graduates of it here, that it's almost identifying information] is fairly specialized field, and not one of the most utilitarian. Research is already about 80% limited to government organizations to begin with, and with the economy the way it's been, research funding has been cut, and the organization that was my best hope for employment is under a hiring freeze as of last year.

However, I suspect I might have a job by now if either of the following were true: I could drive or I could speak French.

I'm not willing to relocate at this point in time, mainly because my fiance is still in school here. At this point he already has to take out another loan, and me moving would mean doubling our rent and utility expenses. I would be willing to move within Canada for the right job if my salary would be enough to cover that difference, so I am still watching for, albeit not actively pursuing, such opportunities.

Haha thanks for that, it made me chuckle. :) I guess it's not as bad as it could be. Although, I have a friend with an BA in Art History who has had better luck finding employment than me....
 
nothing but what i want to do each and every day! retired, workaholic, machinist/toolmaker.
now live above a fishing village on the pacific. i know cannabis is here, i know there are a few tweekers here, a drunk or thirty are easy to find.
only a small portion of the young that are coming up are gonna stay on the boats and fight what's basically and artists and fishing town with no manufacturing to speak of.
i wouldn't were i still young and fucking crazy for what ever life had to offer.
 
Currently a full time student.

In my future profession, its gonna be super conservative.... maybe not suitable for me, but there's alot you can do with the degree i guess.

I'm an accountant, You have to have 150 credit hours to sit for the CPA exam... so i have to either get an Masters of accounting science, or masters of science in taxation.

OR i've been thinking about getting my JD and getting my CPA at the same time...

By the way, i love money. that's my sole motivation, and i think having a JD (law school) and being a CPA will be BANK BANK BANK BANK BANK
 
im a Hair Stylist.. but i like to think of myself as a Hair Artist! my work is never duplicated! i hate giving out the same look twice! everyone is different and should be treated as such...
 
Right now I'm simply a full time student as I'm looking for another job. It's bound to be a mindless customer service/cashier/waitress job again.
