Whats considered a high dose of oxycodone taken orally? Whats considered a med dose of oxycodone orally and finally what would one consider a low dose orally? To better explain I want to see what one can take and avoid sever withdrawal from the med. First I wanna know what people consider high tolerance, middle tolerance and low tolerance. Is it the dose at once the amount in a day? Or how long one should take the med. I take somewhere between 40 and 50mgs a day. Is that a high med or low tolerance. I have been on the med for 3 years. Is that a low tolerance for the amount of time I have been on oxy? If I just stopped c/t would I have hell, roughtime, or mild pain? I now it varys between people but was thinking it could give someone the info to know what they are in for at approx. doses of the med. So that mabey myself or someone else could avoid severe withdrawal if they keep their dose down to a number. Like stopping and suffering a rough withdrawal versus continuing and going though hell. One could stop for awhile and go back to a smaller dose. I take mine in spit doses up to 3 times a day. 15-20 mg at a time.

Therapeutical doses vary from one 10mg two times per day to three 80mg per day. What kind of pain you are suffering from and how does it range in scale 1-10 with and without the amount taken currently?

40-50mg sounds pretty normal/low dose but instead quitting cold turkey you can taper off easily ifand when you think that you are not anymore in pain that needs oxycodone to cope with it. I bet your pain management Dr can and will give good guidelines how to taper off and give RX for smaller dose pills.

I would cut down as quick as possible, maybe taking one 15mg or 20mg pill in the morning and then one more in the evening, and then every three weeks cut down a tiny bit at a time. Taking it everyday for three years, you probably are extremely dependent on it,but your tolerance is not that high. Someone with a high tolerance would be taking 120mg's and up.
But still be careful..Getting off may be harder than you think, but depending on your doctor, you should be able to do it. Maybe start moving towards natural pain relievers. Good Luck : )

"High dose" is a very subjective term. As has already been mentioned, medically people can use very high doses, but this is in cases where the patient's pain either isn't resolved with lower doses or the patient already has an opiate/opioid tolerance from previous opiate/opioid therapy.

Some people are naturally more tolerant or more sensitive to opiates.

I would follow the other posters' advice, good luck! :)

I am 6'0 140lbs. I am prescribed 120mg daily, 30mg x4 daily. I usually take one in the morning, one in evening and one at night, so I take 3 and rarely i'll take 4, only if im having an awful day but i use to take 6 a day so i have brought my tolerance level down to make them work better at controlling my pain, I dont use them to get high, only for a better quality of life.

see its not that I want to quit taking them, I do have real pain issues Lupus, Rheumatiod Arthritis, and more than likely fibro since it just ties with the others. Anyways I feel like ive been ran over by a bus most days. So yes I do need the med but also am wanting mabey if one day they get it undercontrol and my kids are older needing less of me moving I can stop the med. So I am trying to keep my tolerance as low as I can. As to not end up needing to go to the hospital to stop taking it. I will more than likely always half to be on pain meds of some sort. Im wishing I could just take tramadol since im allergic to motrin, asprin anything in that group. Some days I could get by taking only tramadol but then if I take the oxy I have a really really good day. Sometimes over doing it. As my tolerance increases should I stop at a certin point and stay off for a few months and then jump on. Only having milder form of withdrawal? I can handle pain as I am in it everyday and always feel like crap. My pain level it about a 7 most often. I am allowed 30mg daily and sposed to fill in with tramadol so as you see I usually run out a little early and then take the tramadol. I don't really have much withdrawal except anxity and wishing I could move faster again. Wanting to go hiking with my kids or to some kind of event but then I can not stand or walk for long periods of time. I would almost feel like I was putting the little ones in danger if I did so as I would not be able to grab or run after them. without oxy i do the shuffle everywhere I go. I do not go to a pain clinc I do not have insurance and its expensive to go. So thats not going to happen until I get insurance my hubbys won't accept me they denyied me due to pre exist conditions. As far as the natrual stuff goes I have spent thousands on that stuff over the last 9 years and most did not much at all. Some of the herb stuff I was allergic too. I do take few supplemnts an thats about it. My family doc take care of my scripts.

It sounds like you have a legitimate reason to need both the oxycodone and tramadol.

Have you spoken to your doctor about how your pain is not treated all the time? It's normal to need to increase the dosage after a certain amount of time, you shouldn't feel worried or ashamed about that.

Speak to your doctor and get the medication you need to live a normal, happy life. There no need for you to live your life in pain.

Thanks everyone. I ran out this week and don't go to the doc tell wed today is monday. First day I took tramadol and 4 t3s had it around from the dentist. I was not getting real bad withdrawal but was a little concerned about it being to shocking to my already battered body. So the next day I did the same. Then I had a hydro around 5mg so I took that on the 3rd day of no oxy. On the 4th day it was mothers day so I did take my last 20mgs of oxy wanted to go eat in comfort with my family. Then today is I have nothing but tramadol for the next few days. I have not feet horrible its hard to tell whats causing what. Taking benadryl at night to sleep and sleeping about the norm with my electric blanket I use as a full body heating pad lol. Im a little sore than usually am but not going nuts or anything. I do not get a buzz from the oxy infact if I did nod I probley would not take it as my goal is to move not sit back and chill. However I do believe it does make the pain easier to deal with on a mental level. But I would be fine driving, taking care of the kids ect. Oh the tramadol and t3s were hours apart not at the same time. Took the T3s at night to help me sleep 2 around 8 then the other two around 10

^I'm glad to hear you're not going through full withdrawals, you should be able to maintain yourself on those Tylenol 4's (codeine) and the tramadol until your refill.

I recommend telling your doctor that your pain is not completely treated and that you ran out of your medication early this month. It sounds like your doctor is very understanding and will help you out! Good luck!

That question has multiple answers depending on your tolerance.

Considering that I'm on 250mg of methadone daily, I'd probably consider 250mg of oxy a high dose (on top of the methadone and yes I know I probably still wouldn't feel anything). Back before I started the methadone program, I considered 80mg of oxy to be a high dose.

Get yourself a 4oz. bag of Kratom powder and some empty 0 or 00 capsules so that the next time you are out, you will not have to suffer. I stopped a 160-180mg a day Oxy habit with Kratom. It got to the point where I was taking 140mg at a time to get high. The Kratom took away99% of the WD's. Without Kratom, a shotgun to the head seemed to be a much better alternative than the WD's.
I do not touch Oxy's anymore. I get 60 Norcos per month and even turned down an offer to up my dose. I was in a very bad truck accident and shattered my leg a few years ago so I have a legitimate need for them.

Kratom has some pain reducing properties for me and enhances my mood. They will not let me post the name of the strain of K that I found to be the best but it is the cheapest at all of the vendors that I have looked at. I have found it to be slightly addictive after daily use and wouldn't even call them WD's, just some irritability for a day or two.

Good luck and repect the Oxy so that it doesn't get a hold of ya.

yea ive been wanting to try kratom, just not sure what to order the powder? then feel the capsules or should I by already filled capsules? How much is a starting dose say if I was taking it for pain killing and did not want a major buzz.

Well personally... I've been binging a bit lately. Getting the OP 20's and such. I went from chewing 3 at a time to 6 at a time (twice a day) in like a week. I always push myself to far I know. It doesnt help having a roommate that loves them too.

For me:
Small - 60
Med - 80
Large - 120

I dont like oxy too much because of the energy but when I do indulge in it, I never go over 40mgs in a day. I have a friend that does 100mgs a day prescribed but I would think 150mgs is too much.

A dose which is too much for X, might be too little for Y, and a dose which is too little for Y might be just perfect for Z. This thread has absolutely no harm reduction value and is not going to lead to a great discussion.
