What do guys really think of girl's bodies?

It has always been my belief that guys are very, very fussy about girl's bodies, & like them to be 'perfect', whatever that means. I think that this is due to increasing explicit sexualisation of our media, & the way in which we see a lot more flesh than we used to. Supermodels & actresses are getting thinner, & there is a lot more pressure to have an abnormally thin, toned figure these days. For example, look at the Bond movies. In Dr No (1962) we see Ursula Andress emerge from the ocean, looking gorgeous, with a slim but normal curvy figure. You can see she's holding her stomach in. She looks great, but her body doesn't seem unattainable. Fast foward forty years to 2002, with Halle Berry making her appearance in Tommorow Never Dies. She emerges from the water with a body so toned and perfect that it makes Ursula Andress seem almost 'flabby'. Her boobs defy gravity, she has curves in all the right places, & there is not an inch of untoned skin or extra flesh. It's as though she was created by an artist, not by mother nature.

And I think it's this change thats made me feel guys now expect perfection from a girl's body. I spend a lot of time worrying about my body & perfecting it, because I'm sure that no guy will be attracted to me if I don't look like one of the girls in FHM. But is this true? Do men really mind if a girl has stretch marks, cellulite, or she isn't thin? Could he be attracted to a girl who doesn't have a body like a swimsuit model? I always assumed that men would really slag a girl off to his friends if she didn't have a great body, & I guess this has made me a bit paranoid. Does it really matter that much what her body looks like? The funny thing is, on the reverse when it comes to men, I really don't care if a bloke isn't an adonis, and if he is overweight/underweight etc. All I are about is hygiene and height. As long as I get on with the person and I find them sexually attractive then I really don't care.

Anyway, your thoughts please

MissG:)

I find few things less attractive than women being neurotic about their bodies.

Isn't vanity a sin?

Some guys will, some guys won't. I think it's probably quite common, unfortunately, but it doesn't mean there aren't guys who don't obsess about figures. Although even such men have a disturbing tendency to revert to the norm as a way of fitting in with groups of other men.

All I are about is hygiene and height.

Body fascist :) I fucking despise this height thing. And i despise the fact women seem to think its ok, 'Ya, i wouldn't go out with someone shorter than me' titter. Fucking bitches.

Angry Short Man stereotype confirmed =D

These body neuroticism/social conformity/media pressure threads are boring.

I'm not quite sure what you are asking here. Would guys like girls to have perfect bodies? Yes. Do we expect it? No. Can we be attracted to a girl who doesn't have a body like a swimsuit model? No. This explains why only models have relationships, and ugly people never do.

Yes. And all men are rapists, and all women are whores. What the fuck is it with people in this forum and stupid generalizations?

Have a look at the birthday suit thread in the lounge and tell us again how Americans are fat.

I hate my body!

I don't sit around feeling depressed about it (because that's a waste of life) but I certaintly don't feel comfortable naked!

I'm about a small to medium build (prolly more medium), some people say I'm fucken tiny... but that's bullshit (in my head).

We've already established the fact that I have an incredibly disorted body image though... I wish I could see myself how other people seem to.

I think my stomach is ugly as hell. Hardly shown it to anyone - the ones I have shown laughed at me for being so petty. It kinda made me feel good! I hope it was genuine.

so yeah, guys: I'd too love to hear what you think! Personally I'm a face person myself, if a guy has a nice face - I don't really care about his body (or more to the point, I'll prolly think he's hot as hell regardless). It's a shame I can't put this theory into practise when it comes to myself.

My wife has what she calls 'ugly days' when she feels thouroughly unattractive, despite my protestations that I think she's beautiful. That's from somebody who most blokes seem to think is really hot (that's not just me saying that, I've had a couple of friends comment that my wife has the best body they've seen) - it's just something that seems to come with having oestrogen & progesterone as your main sex hormones.

Magazines like FHM promote an unrealistic image of feminine beauty, not just through their use of a very limited range of body ttypes, but also through use of techniques like airbrushing etc. No woman can achieve what a combination of modelling agencies and Photoshop can achieve, but through mags like FHM, lots of teenage boys (and some older that should know better) have unreal expectations of what women should look like. That filters through to women and causes all sorts of women to have negative self-images (even though she knows about the 'FHM effect' my wife is still touchy about leg hair as she has black hair and a Mediterranean type complexion, which makes them more obvious than women with blond or red hair).

We have all the ingredients of a very unhappy society in the making...

fallen thats shalow'' Can we be attracted to a girl who doesn't have a body like a swimsuit model? No.''

im very petite skiny and short but i constantly think im fat i got love handles and like kandyraverchik hate my stomech ! even though i try and very rarely complain about my wait in public when i do people tell me to shut up cus in their opinion im not what i think i am .. i do feel uncomfortable naked at some points. and the worst thing is my bf told me at one point that his ex needed to loose 1kilo or two and she's very skinny and is a strippa.(put me in a position of thinking of the perfect body image again)

I'm not a body fascist. You have no idea whether I was referring to short or tall men, so don't make assumptions. I am pretty tall, and I've dated blokes that are much shorter than me in the past & I have found them just as attractive as taller ones. However I have found that the guys often have a big problem with me being so much taller than them, & one time it ended up in a huge barney because I wanted to wear heels somewhere & he wouldn't let me. So since then I've been apprehensive, but I certainly wouldn't not date a chap just because I was taller than him.

I think you need to calm down mate. This was a perfectly reasonable topic for a thread, something I've wondered about for a while, & I don't see why you need to act so aggressively about it. I just wanted to gage some normal opinions.

If it's so boring you go & find something more interesting to do with your time, such as looking at other threads. May I also suggest you go lock yourself in a padded room & take your rage out on some pillows or something :)

^ I think the words 'self-fulfilling prophecy' should be possibly be introduced here.

Basically, don't kick off with somebody until you definitely know their point of view (btw there are some women like that out there, it's just best to be sure who they are before issuing a stream of abuse)

Hey why you no post a peekture and i tell you if you fat, lanky :)

Just kidding. The body fascist was just a bit of a joke (hence the smiley), but i thought it was a little funny that you're worried about men criticising you for body imperfections, but yet you have this height thang.

Quit worrying about your weight, be confident socially and enthusiastic in bed.

You have now become the ideal woman.

I'll "weigh" in on this one.......

I'll take the liberty of speaking for all men...(and women) on this topic. There are all kinds of body types in this world. Personally, my preference is for a short, thickly built and curvy woman. However, I'd rather date a twig that is confident with herself, than "my perfect girl" who thinks she's fat. Women say all the time that it's all about a 'confident' attitude that turns them on with men. I suspect that this is most of the appeal of the 'bad boy' that gets so many women off. So......having said that......confidence, and self-worth are always first. There's nothing hotter than a woman that appreciates you finding her hot, and doesn't question WHY you find her hot.

My second point, and I've seen this proven over and over again. We live in a capitalistic society. Money talks, bullshit walks. So, ladies, do yourself a favor. Go to a strip club, and just watch. I absolutely guarantee you that the girl with the broad shoulders and round hips is the one making the most money. It always proves itself to be true. Despite what's in the media, men cough up the money at a strip club for the girl with the curves.

ive found that women are generally much more concerned with their bodies then men are.

my girlfriend is obsessed with her weight. i however am perfectly happy with her figure and curves.

please dont blame this mass hysteria that seems to spread amongst women to be bony on men. most of us do not dig bony chicks and despise hearing our girlfriends tell us how fat they are when we think theyre perfect the way they are.

My weight ranges from 112-119lbs and although i dont obsess over it i do prefer to be closer to 112lbs. Being short does mean that i havent got much room for the extra few pounds i have now and again and im naturally curvy. Im comfortable being naked though and for those girls who arent then i suggest sitting alone in a room with no interruptions in front of a mirror naked, and just appreciate your body. Even the bits you dont like look at and eventually you will begin to accept them if not come to like them. Its what i did and eventually it worked :)

I think the majority of guys realise that women arent all model types, we dont all look wonderful in the skimpy swimming suits, but at the same time the majority appreciate our bodies for what they are. A few stretch marks here and there or a soft belly just make us who we are and make us individuals and i think that should be remembered more and advertised in the media rather than focusing on a few select models/celebs who get personal trainers and airbrushed in photoshoots.

Nobody is perfect but those imperfections make us just that little bit closer.

Ideally, every guy wants to date a model. The guy i was with last dated many models and i felt very judged, as well as him joking around and calling me "fatass," and critiquing everything i ate. Of course he was very picky about girl's bodies.

Men are extremely critical-they discuss openly every single slightly unattractive thing about us..but that doesnt mean they would not date us or want to fuck us. Those who seek for perfection will never find it...ever. And they will throw around people like balls until they do-but those people are fake and superficial and materialistic and self-absorbed themselves. So who would want to date them in the first place?

There is someone out there who will like each and everyone of us for who we are- we should only have to worry if we are happy with ourselves- and NOT if anyone is.

:)

I think guys might like to talk about the bodies of women they don't know or who they are't particurlarly close to, but for most men their girlfriends bodies are sacred. As in, they won't talk about them in a disparaging way or at all.

I know my partner would never discuss my body with anyone.

If a guy ever called me a fat ass and criticised what I ate, he'd lose all rights to my fat ass. He wouldn't be seeing it again.

Do men mind if a girl has stretch marks, cellulite and isn't thin? I guess some guys probably do. But I think most guys can overlook small imperfections when they find a girl they really care about. I've also witnessed men overlook huge imperfections when they are really horny :D

Any guy who has is feet grounded in the real world isn't going to expect you to look like a swimsuit model. Especially if he is no adonis himself.

why is it that guys are the ones being blamed for womens poor self image?

i can guarantee you the average guy is not looking for a supermodel nor will they think theyre even all that attractive. the supermodel look is what women push on themselves. why dont you look through womens magazine and mens magazines and compare the models used in each. last time i looked through maxim i didnt see any bony 100 pound 6 foot tall models posing.

a perfect example of this is lindsey lohan. she looked sooooooo much better before she lost all that weight, and most men will agree with me on this.

women trying to become as thin as possible are the same as men trying to 300 pounds and be all muscle. YOU HAVE WARPED VIEWS ON BEAUTY!!!!!!

i find it ironic that a women made a thread asking the men what we think of womens bodies and then continues to tell us our opinions.
