What colour should Robadope be?

Wow my first post, was only a few weeks ago I had my first pill. This is a whole new world.

I understand in the robadope test I am looking for a colour change to red/salmon (according to the manual) or even purple (according to the website) to indicate a primary amine.

My Robadope already is a light red/salmon to start with. Has it gone off or is this the colour it should be? The kit is brand new, I personally broke all seals. The buffer is clear, and when mixed with the robadope reagant it is a very light pink.

If I could get the macro setting of my digital camera to work I'd upload a picture of the reagant (and some pill reports).

Another question - I've heard the life of these reagants is six months. Generally speaking, does this start from the time you break the seals?

It is already a very very light colour red straight out from the bottle. The reaction will happen with a primary amine present, it just takes a little while. If you are unsure then take two tests, have a droplet with the solution and one without. If they both look the same after 90 seconds then it is unlikely you have a primary amine. It really does go a more pronounest red/salmon colour - but I would do it under good conditions - don't try it in the car or anything like that.

soma is right! if you are unsure about whether you see a color change or not: run 2 tests simultaneously, 1 blank and 1 with the sample. The liquid will change color in combination with a primary amine.
