What are you munching on? v. the cheese n' fish cake crew

I tried to like brown rice but it's just pish, takes fucking forever to cook and even once it's done it still tastes like it's not cooked properly.

You can get easy cook brown rice now, Spadey. Takes about as long as white rice - maybe a tad longer. White rice can be great but has to be cooked just right cos it turns to mush if you leave it a nanosecond too long. Brown rice is good for big solid meals like chilli and come curries but I wouldn't use it for more delicate stuff (like a Thai Green Curry or the like maybe).

Speaking of which, had another decent Grossman saucemeal t'other day. Thai Red Curry with beef. Used stewing steak cos it was reduced but even though it was so tender it fell apart when poked with a fork there was still a fair bit of fatty stuff on some of it. Other than that it was very tasty though. Got some Thai Red Curry paste today on offer. Only a quid a jar and probably enough for 3-4 curries in it. Gonna get a Green one too. Bargain at that price :)

You'd be much cheaper making sauces and pastes yourself. Lazy cunt. ;)

I'm not sold on the Grossmans sauces, marginally better than some of the other jars but not great.

I'm gonna either go heat up some homemade soup, munch more of tonights chilli or make a lorne sausage sandwhich. Decisions decisions!

To make my own would mean having to initially spend a fortune on all the spices and other ingredients, Spadey. It's a piece of piss and dirt cheap if you have all that stuff in the storecupboard already but if not a jar of sauce costs less than just one jar of spice let alone a whole variety needed to make anything worth eating. I just buy whichever sauce is on offer at the time - usually about a quid each and enough for two good meals easily. The Grossman stuff is no longer on offer so will be shilling for some other company for the next coupla weeks.

Homemade soup is my steez at the moment like!

Cheap as, and I get loads of meals out of it. I'm gonna have a day cooking different types, and freeze them. Soya chilli and pasta is dirt cheap to make too. Cheap eating for aaaages. Now that it's finally dole day and I can go veg and cheap spice from weigh your own shop shopping the morrow :)

QFT. You can't beat Grossman for a quid a jar. Just stock up until they're on offer again, in like fucking two weeks. Failing that, Jamie's, Ramsay's or Sacla. Everybody wins.

If theres not many of you or for small families and for convienience I dont see anything wrong with using A jar.

I agree for special occasions homemade can be great, but it is time consuming and expensive, especially if you do not eat things like curries very often.

I fed myself on home made for a week on 5 quids worth of veg, few tins of 33p tinned toms, cheap bag of pasta, cheap rice, veg oxo cubes, and cheap spices from weigh your own shops, and some crusty bread, and a loaf.

It can be done, but depends on area, and if you have access to these sort of places. I also only eat once a day usually.

Also yeah, taste dependant.

agreed, I've got a family of 4 and a soup or a stew can go for miles and cheap as chips.

Speaking of grub, I'm having a slice of cheese on toast made for me just now. YUM YUM!

It's not. It doesn't take long to knock up a decent sauce, you can spend hours on it or you can spend 10 mins if that's all you've got. It will still taste better than anything from a jar. Not expensive either, you can buy just a few different versatile spices that can be used for many different types of food and they'll last for a long time so you get your moneys worth. Far better value for money than jarred sauces even if they are on offer.

Think I'll have a lorne sausage sandwhich if theres any left.

I agree, Grossmans sauces are wank. If your gona make any curry from a jar then get curry paste and add the rest of the stuff to it.

Ive been getting into lamb recently, i can make a well nice lamb biryani and lamb saggs. I can cook rice perfectly every time now as well the absorbtion method is definatly the way to go. Fuck brown rice

Curry.

Fuck jarred sauce off, specially grossman.

Brown rice is wrong, basmati only one.

Lamb is best curry meat, or mutton even better. lamb shoulder is fucking great.

Wish I had a curry now, I just had me tea, half a pound of herring spunk on toast with some watercress and lemon and shit. Nice, tasty, but felt more like an appetiser than a meal.

i eat fucking LOADS but I'm still losing weight, Royal Mail keep telling me we got less post to deliver now than we used to, but we're all fading away.

i eat :a couple of canna gingernuts for breakfast, 2 pints tea, coffee, all sugarred,

on me round 2 litres full fat Ribena, 2 bars chocolate, Snickers, Picnic, whatever

After round a sausage roll and a custard doughnut from bakers on town, sometimes a McD on the way home, if it's a weekend and wife is home I might even et a fry up when I get in.

Another 2 pints sugarry tea, and at least 2 pints ribena again at home.

Massive tea, i always cook with butter , cream, leave all fat on meat.

Crisps, more chocolate, and more booze than the recommended limits every night too.

Sorry way off topic, dunno where that came from, lol, I AM happy however that I'm now, at 40, the same weight I was at 26, in me early 30's before I started postying I was 88-90 kilos, now back down to 77-78. Very god very good, but is all this high cal food just killing me anyway?

Yeah, fuck off Grossman! You're a twat.

Lamb is the best meat for a curry. Love it but don't eat it often enough. Had a great goat curry in Peru...cooked by a Scotsman funnily enough.

Mailmonkey that's some appetite you've got. Fucking hell.

I read this thread, them remember i've not eaten since yesterday. I've just no appetite. Still though, i'm going to have me a supernoodle sandwich for dinner. Once I go to the shop and buy some! Which might be in a bit, or it might be now.

^Lidl is my friend, but budget white rice will do me just fine. TBH, I'm not even sure if I could tell the difference.
