had a cauliflower - potato - chickpea curry with boiled rice and green pea dahl for tonights dinner.

tomorrow going to cook a shoulder of lamb with roasted carrots-parsnips and red onions with mashed potatos

Ahhhhhh, we've just had a roast lamb shoulder with cauli, carrots, spinach, roast tatties, gravy....stuffed now, can barely move. Enjoy yours bogman.

errrrr, as it says, roast!

stabbed it a few times and stuffed some garlic and rosemary and very coarse cracked mixed peppercorns in the holes. then rubbed it all over with a load of salt and pepper.

Roast low for 3 hours, and half hour blast on very hot at the end to crisp up the fat on the outside. :D

EDIT>>>>>>>can't believe I didn't see the face in the jaffa cake...that's what Dan's all about with his cooking, layers and layers, it's not just flavour, it's not just presentation, his meals continue to astonish and delight every time you go back to them...he's a master, i don't even know if he fully realises it yet..

I'm liking, is it tuna?

Can I see a pic of your nan's tray without a plate on it please ? I like trays too.

Not eating right now, had toasted granary bread earlier. Thinking what to do with mackerel and pondering making broccoli soup.

got the shoulder of lamb in the oven as i type.made a few slits in the meat and put in chopped anchovy fillets- garlic and fresh rosemary.then covered it in olive oil with salt and black pepper.

put into a hot oven for 20mins then took out and poured a glass of white wine and popped back into the oven at 160.

That sounds absolutely scrumptious - are you having roast tatties with it?

Do you also like cooking desserts, puddings and baking mr bog?

no having mashed spuds with wholegrain mustard n butter plus honey glazed roasted carrots/parsnips/red onions.

not got into baking or desserts yet will make pies ok.i need to improve on my startes and desserts.my 2 sisters can make unbelievable cakes n buns.will get some help from them.

Mmm mash, your veggies sound lovely.

I bet you'll end up as an excellent baker. Can just imagine you doing an eve's pudding or the like. This is making me hungry.

nice touch with the anchovy fillets too! Might try that next time. You do it backwards to me, I'm not sure which is "right", I like to roast slow then hot blast to caramelise and crisp the fat at the end, i take it you do the hot blast at the start to "seal" the joint?

gotta be lamb? Nice bit of kale on the plate Dan. Very nice.

were both right.made gravy from the juices in the roasting tin.chucked in 6 ice cubes for a minute and most of the fat stuck to them then poured the rest of the juices into a small pot over a low heat and whisked in some flour n butter.

I love cookin, never ever heard of that one, always struggle to remove the fat from the meat juices satisfactorily, and is especially important with lamb shoulder...that is the best tip I've had for years, really, thanks :D

front of the cow mailman,

nah they dont make me windy. and yeah not that much beef on the plate, not needed, was all about the healthy green stuff. get enough protein through various fish and whatnot

those chillis burnt my mouth to bits

Aw man the last thing I'd want to see when I'm hungover is brussel sprouts, much prefer a big greasy munch or something with copious amounts of melted cheese.

lol nah,

actually you just reminded me that ive got an ice cream maker tucked away downstairs... haven't used it for years. might have to bust it out and see what sort of fucked treat can be conjured up

smoothies are another thing i might have to get back on the making, used to bang about 8 different fruits together in a blender, get some right funky random colored end result n some of the combos used to taste pretty interesting. if i get back into the weights might start making some protein smoothies or something
