Hahahahaha! It just never gets old, as funny now as it was first time round. :D

I had onion soup ! Topped with some toasted onion bread (rubbed with Garlic) and then some cheddar melted on top :)

Ooooooh, that's looks a bit good. I'm a parmesan crouton man, cheddar's a bit oily for me grilled but recipe be good if you have it kicking about?

Have never had cockles but always thought I'd probably like 'em. Was very wary of mussels for years until me ex-fiance (who was a bit "European" cos she lived in the Netherlands with a Dutch husband (also a psychopathic speed dealer) so developed some suspect foreign ways ;)) invited a friend over from Holland who cooked for us every night. One night was moule mariniere - was lushy as fuck. Still took a while for me to work up the nerve to eat and actual mussel rather than just dunking bread in the juice though. Fresh shellfish are not summat I'd be confident cooking but generally approve if somebody else does.

Decent crusty bread with a moules mariniere is a joy, so long as I don't look at what I'm eating. It's the diseased lady parts look of the things, espesh the bigger ones with big lips and beards, it's just wrongness in every way, can't eat that shit once you've made that association. *shudders* So yeah, try to hide the mussels in bits of bread so I can't see them, happy days, def the way forward.

Bit gutted today. Fancied making curried goat with rice and peas for some reason. Never made it before but love the stuff. By the time I'd shopped for it it was 6 o'clock and I couldn't wait three hours for it to marinade and cook. Mission for tomorrow though. *licksface*

Curry goat is exceellent, had it a few times, om[ly made it once....mst try it again....

I love cockles, they're even easier to collect sacksful than mussels..

edit>>>>just had a ham , grated cheese, celery, grated carrot, mayo and red peppercorn sandwich. Fucking lovely.

No want to eat a load of mussels, and just spotted a chicken in the fridge I quite fancy roasting the fuck out of.

Sweet Chilli is pretty much always universally lush as a flavour to lather on carbs, dried or moist.
And nuts - peanuts and pistchios anyway

also, these are pretty much the bestest crisp ever

In every sense bagels are awesome. Garlic or onion ones espesh delish. If you're doing cream cheese it has to be proper curd stuff from a kosher deli. Salt beef works too. *licksface* Otherwise it's bacons and egglewegs on a toasted bagel, which is not really all that Jewish. Still the best bacon sarnie you'll ever eat though.

Anyways, yeah, curried goat. Mission accomplished.

*smugs*

Except it wasn't goat, was lamb. The guy on the meat counter at the asian store I buy all my dry goods from probably saw me coming. I asked is that goat, he's like yeah, you want it cutting up? :sus: Can't complain tho, half a sheep for six quid, 12-15 chops and a load of ribs and bones on top for richness and sauciness purposes. Wasn't quite right, there was something missing ( maybe the goat? ) but it was close and tasted damn bloody good. Rice and peas need work but still tasty stuff even if was a bit too coconut milky. Shit loads left for the freezer too. happy days.

find that frying your whole spices first makes a massive difference.

Oh yeah. An learning which to dry fry for a bit of pestle and mortaring, which to fry off in plenty of oil, which to put in at the last minute. So much to get to grips with learning how each thing changes the flavours. No wonder asian women start cooking so early, takes so long to master.

You may already know of this spice so ignore my ramblings but a pinch of Asafoetida gives such an amazing flavor :)

Apparently it's meant to reduce the activity of the gut flora which make you fart loads after eating bare chickpeas and other pulses, so it has a practical application as well.

Use it instead of garlic if you're being proper Ayurvedic I think? Is it more than garlic? I kind of always thought it must be a poor substitute. Tried to buy it yesterday, asian store didn't have any. Go figure? Halal though, maybe they don't use it so much in Pakistani cooking?

You guys ever made asian sweets BTW? Barfi / Burfi? Takes all day to make stirring a pan of milk just to get a decent enough sized tray of it but wow, well worth making the real thing, barfi they sell in asian shops is nowhere near home made.

Jealousy inducing post

And here's me getting excited about me stuffed crust pizza and hash browns, ya bugger ;) Got used to being with me ladyfriend and getting awesome (vegetarian 8o) curries and wotnot that I forgot I'm shit at bothering to cook. She does the Asian sweets and all, being of Pakistani extraction, but I've yet to try em.

I need to start cooking properly again, lost about 5lbs while she's been feeding me, felt better too.

edit: mushroom spread, that's a new un on me

editedit: hi <3

I always / only ever cook. I can't afford for supermarkets to do the cooking for me. Nor do I trust them with it. ( Unexpected horse in bagging area, shit like that. ) Reason I got into dal and asian cooking is cos I was sick of eating chili pasta, I reckoned cooks who could keep an entire continent going on lentils and chickpeas might have something to teach me.

Anyways, today's lesson. Sweetcorn chowder, with cheese on toast floating in it. Twice. First time I've ever done soup with milk, it was good. Still more than I've eaten left in the pan, happy days! :)

Hey Seph how u doin me mucker? I'll tell you what I like; kulfi. As I'm sure u well know its an Indian, or Pakistani ice cream, made with clarified butter (ghee is it?). The one I like is green and tastes really herbal and unusual. Took me ages to figure out what the main taste is, but I think its saffron, or cardamon, or both. Niiiice. And yes, Barfi are awesome, only time I've had was from waitrose, but was still good. Must try again soon :)

'ey up old son, I'm fine and bloody dandy mate, good to hear from you. :) Not crossed threads / posts / PMs for a while.

Kulfi is all kinds of so, so, good. yeah, if it's greenish and kulfi-ish it's cardamom or pistachio. Never made it actually, should give it a try. Really, REALLY, properly thick and creamy ice-cream is yer Kulfi, worth a go I think. It's the rasmalai!

Mama noodles are great, I've not had the pot ones, just the packet ones, the TomYum flavour is nice and hot too <3

Mussels and chips for us again tonight, usual shallots, white wine, rosemary, pepper, and I always finish it with a little bit of cream...and a massive handful of chopped parsley lobbed on top to serve....

Poor pontifex :( Glad you're managing something anyway :)
