What Are You Listening To? XXVIII - Foolsgold Will Be Forever Embedded in Our Hearts

@MonoThom Did you watch the Eurovision last night?

I watched it for the first time in about 30 years, the general standard right across the board has improved immensly, apart from about half a dozen cringeworthy efforts, whereas virtually every effort used to be total cringe a few years ago.

I really liked the Netherlands entry, it sounded very much like a track which Tom Petty or Neil Young might have written and recorded. It was immediately accessible and enjoyable too which must have helped a lot in securing his win.

Nope. Securing what win exactly? Who did he have sex with now?

Thanks but I think we don't have comparable taste in music if you think Neil Young is accessible and enjoyable :-)

Journal - Paul hepker & Mark kilian - from the movie Rendition

Does anyone know what instrument is being plucked in the build up? Is it an Oud :? 10 Gold stars to anyone who knows. ;)

And wtf are those pipes from 1:15 to 1:36 sandwiched in between the two plaintive wails :?

Best I can give you is that at the start that is either a sitar or a Mandolin. The instrument you hear between 1:15 - 1:36 is either a violin / viola or something of that family ( no, not as broad as just saying the string family) I make no promises but that's the best I can give you. Hope it helps xxx

Nice song btw <3

yeah that sounds about right for the bit at the start. Thanks Sadie. :D But the other bit i was also on about between 1:15 and 1:36 was not the strings, but there is definitely some kind of pipe instrument featuring prominently in the foreground.

I'm glad you liked the track. Just the right bits of it were used at exactly the right times in the movie to make it a very emotive score to the movie.

I'll have to watch the movie now because that was a very haunting piece. I rather quite enjoyed it.

Sadly for some reason the jack point on my pc is only playing out of one side so I can't hear what's in the back ground as to me it sounds from what you're saying that it was recorded in stereo meaning I will only get the right and not the left. If that makes any sense, it's been a long ass day. I'll have to change screens and run through the Telly for full sound I'm afraid.

I'm really glad you liked the music so much, no need to go to all that trouble on my behalf, especially if you've had a long day.

I also hope that you will enjoy the movie if you watch it. The score is not used very much, so that when it is used it is all the more powerful for being so sparingly used. ;)

It's no bother at all I just can't do it tonight as sadly just now I share a telly with someone who happens to be watching it atm.

I'm wondering if the instrument in question is the woodwind that comes in at 1:36. I won't know until tomorrow if I remember and even then I can't promise you to be able to identify it. I'll give it a bash though. :)

Edit: Do I get any gold stars. Mibbe even a singular brown one? ;)
