Sorry but I've gotta say it. This guy is a TOOL. He makes me embarrassed to play the guitar. Pretentious doesn't even begin to cover it.

He did play on records by PiL and (ahem) David Lee Roth, which just about lets him off the hook. But yeah - pretentious heavy-metal fretwankery of the most soulless, uncool kind.

I prefer my guitar heroes big on sound, attitude and expressiveness rather than clinical in their execution:

What a tune that is Pagey from an absolutely scorching album.

I don't think Soundgarden got anywhere close to Superunknown before or since.

Just my opinion of course.

Absolutely agree. I just love that piece - it feels like it's building up to something really intense and then it gets calm again, like they're teasing us but it's perfect.

I do really like Down on the Upside as an album as well though.
