Breaking news on the death of GWAR frontman Dave Brockie (aka Oderus Urungus). According to a Richmond, Va. news outlet, law enforcement is currently investigating Brockie’s death as drug-related based on evidence gathered at the scene of the singer’s death.
On the evening of March 23, Brockie was found dead on a sofa in his Richmond home by a roommate. Initially, no cause of death had been announced or even speculated, but sadly, it seems that drug use may have ended Brockie’s life.
According to WTVR, since drug-related evidence was found by police, a toxicology report will be made, but it could be six weeks or more until the results are processed and made public. Brockie’s official cause of death will be determined by the state Medical Examiner.
Countless tributes have been paid for Brockie by rock and metal musicians since the singer’s death, truly showing how respected and influential Brockie was for generations of artists and metalheads alike.

Smashing Pumpkins Working on Two New Albums, Billy Corgan Tracks Over 150 Demos

Smashing-Pumpkins.jpg

If we’ve learned anything in recent years it’s that Smashing Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan is not afraid to tackle large projects. That prolific streak is about to continue as the rocker just inked a new deal with BMG for two new Smashing Pumpkins albums that will arrive in 2015. Furthermore, Corgan has currently demoed over 150 new tracks for the upcoming records.
In a message posted on The Official Smashing Pumpkins Nexus, Corgan revealed that the two discs will be titled ‘Monuments to an Elegy’ and ‘Day for Night.’ He added, “For those interested in sound, think: ‘guitars, guitars, guitars and more guitars,’ but more so on the epic side of things than say, grossly metallic.”
The band is reportedly set to begin recording sessions with producer Howard Willing, who first worked with the Smashing Pumpkins for their late ’90s album, ‘Adore.’ Corgan also teased that the band will likely release a single before the end of 2014.
In a second message posted to the new Smashing Pumpkins Nexus social platform, Corgan gave fans some insight on just how expansive his work has become for the two new albums. He explains, “Spent most of the day listening to 132 demos. Yes, you read that right! 132!!! Crazyland … and still another 20-25 to go. Once we whittle those down, we’ll dive in tomorrow on a new round of song work/arrangements for those chosen for ‘Monuments.’”
Corgan’s post also included a photo of a tablet with his notes on specific songs. Titles such as ‘Palindrome,’ ‘Roccasins,’ ‘Serpentine,’ ‘Anti-Hero’ and ‘Cardinal Rule’ appear among his written listing. Check out the full post here.
The two new records will be the Smashing Pumpkins’ first full-length releases since their 2012 effort, ‘Oceania.’

Can't go wrong wiv new Pumpkins/Corgan material. Is no wonder the geezer's a fiend considering the sheer volume of output involved. I consider myself a Pumpkins fanboy but know damn well I've probably barely made it through 1/4 of even the easy to access stuff (official releases excluded).

The one Pumpkins era I really don't get on with so well is the Adore one... however... when played live and acoustic with Sammy G's fave artist as guest vocalist I did go a wee bit gooey...

Smashing Pumpkins & Marilyn Manson - Eye/The Beautiful People (live '97)

In other unexpected cover/combo news...

Dave Gilmour/Billy Corgan - Wish You Were Here (acoustic)

Nice - Dear John...long forgotten simple pop band, beautiful two note mournful guitar...perfect Dear John song...

Sun City Girls - Space Prophet Dogon...one of the best songs ever! Seriously...great mix of eastern drone and psychedelia from Seattle weirdos in the late 80s and 90s...

Currently still on a bit of an 80s nostalgia trip hence...

New Order/Pet Shop Boys - Disco Mix (CD cover appears to call it a tribal mix, suspect the PooToober has better grasp of musical terminology - may or may not be worth listening through completely but two of my fave childhood bands mixed for an hour or so? Sold <3)

Amani: There is only one - and one only - simple, beautiful break-up song in existence...

Jilted John - Jilted John - the amount of 10ps I spent on that at the college jukebox is just obscene :D

FG's picture - the skinhead = I would after fighting marmz off :)

"The Skinhead"? You mean Billy Corgan - best geetarist who ever did breathe? I preferred him in his longhair daze but it's been long enough with the shaved look I've become accustomed...

Smashing Pumpkins - SIva (live wiv some hair (more hair on album cover - sexy as all fukkery doing his geetar thang no matter which way ya swing <3)

Smashing Pumpkins - Siva (acoustic - baldy but can see yer point, Bear :D)

I've obviously heard of 'the smashing pumpkins' I would not be able to name a track by them though ? I grew up on disco, clubbed on High Energy, then acid, then rave then .....
