Marmalade: Yeah, you really get another, deeper understanding (pun intended) of Kate Bush after you start to dig deeper in the lyrics (something I usually don't do -I hardly ever notice what most artists are singing actually). It's a bit the same with Stereolab, really... it's dum-de-dum (or love or whatever) until you start digging deeper: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_XswHm514w

It's alright ,'cause the historical pattern has shown
How the economical cycle tends to revolve
In a round of decades three stages stand out in a loop
A slump and war then peel back to square one and back for more

Bigger slump and bigger wars and a smaller recovery
Huger slump and greater wars and a shallower recovery

You see the recovery always comes 'round again
There's nothing to worry for things will look after themselves
It's alright recovery always comes 'round again
There's nothing to worry if things can only get better

There's only millions that lose their jobs and homes and sometimes accents
There's only millions that die in their bloody wars, it's alright

It's only their lives and the lives of their next of kin that they are losing
It's only their lives and the lives of their next of kin that they are losing

[...]

Don't worry be happy things will get better naturally
Don't worry shut up sit down go with it and be happy

Dumb, dumb, dumb, de dumb dumb, de duh de duh de dumb dumb dum... ah ah
Dumb, dumb, dumb, de dumb dumb, de duh de duh de dumb dumb dum... ah ah

A nice summary of the early theories of Reich by the pro-situationist Surveillance Camera Players of New York - http://www.notbored.org/reich.html (better than reading the book, actually - it's a bit dated).

Shambles: I had Fatty Boom Boom on repeat when I was still at uni, excellent for handling stress on the subway... now I had all but forgot it. Good thing you bright it to attention again! I can understand that some people really, really think it's crap (bit of an acquried taste perhaps), and perhaps it doesn't stay in your mind for so long either (my mind is an example, obv.) but now I can't wait until this damnable cold and all these fucking blizzards give way for summer, dancing and walking really quickly in the Stockholm subway, listening to Die Antwoord :)

Regressing..gone all the best of 80s goth tonight..but fuck it's still good.

Ahhh shweet of you Shambles. I love music..anything that gives me tingles whatever alleged classification and little cult I never wholly fitted in to-In my teens I was probably the only raver that came down to New Model Army, nine inch nails, The cure, Depeche Mode, Marc Almond and The pixies and Violent femmes and Santana!! he he . I have a desperate urge to listen to gay bikers on acid track or Alabama 3 bjt I can't choose..so this while in spangled state have a think.

Horses In My Dreams - PJ Harvey

Yeah, believe me, I got to the section on 'Orgastic potency' and was fucking sold ;p

It's like he's Cronenberg's intimate other side, or brother or summat. And you KNOW how the thought of that will appeal to me.

He wrote in his best known book, The Function of the Orgasm: "Between 1919 and 1921, I became familiar with Driesch's 'Philosophie des Organischen' and his 'Ordnungslehre'... Driesch's contention seemed incontestable to me. He argued that, in the sphere of the life function, the whole could be developed from a part, whereas a machine could not be made from a screw..... However, I couldn't quite accept the transcendentalism of the life principle. Seventeen years later I was able to resolve the contradiction on the basis of a formula pertaining to the function of energy. Driesch's theory was always present in my mind when I thought about vitalism. The vague feeling I had about the irrational nature of his assumption turned out to be justified in the end. He landed among the spiritualists."[12]

The Function of Orgasm is the book of his I have and have read. That's not to say I understood all of it. I got that it involved focus on the breath and wanking. Not focus on control of the breath like most meditation techniques - just the focus part. And wanking. Can't quite recall how the two combine but I do recall it worked a treat. Head-spinner is all I need to say really. Worth looking into. I fully intend to look further myself as and when. Enjoy the "lots of reading over the next few days" and happy breathing and/or wanking =D

(not kidding - try the basic breathing/wanking technique as and when you come across 'em (fnarr) <3)

Magazine - The Light Pours Out Of Me

(is noice <3)

Faith & Disease - Louise

(is also noice - am thinking marmzy 'n' 'flo will most likely agree :D)

http://youtu.be/eAflJWI_ZU8 Alan Jackson - A Love Like

Well I've been wonderin' what I've been missin'
I guess I should have known
But my heart does and it ain't whisperin'
It tells me just what it wants

Someone who knows what I like in my coffee
And the shape of my ol' hat
A lover who always looks at me not through me
I need a love like that

I need a love like that
I could use a little sun on my back
A truck needs a highway, a train needs a track
I need a love like that

Well I need a new car but I can't afford it
So I keep patchin' that ol' flat
My heart's lonely and I can't ignore it
I need a love like that

Yeah, I need a love like that
I could use a little sun on my back
A truck needs a highway, a train needs a track
And I need a love like that

Two young people dancin' in the daylight
They don't care where they're at
Waitin' on sunset and holdin' on so tight
I need a love like that

Yeah, I need a love like that
I could use a little sun on my back
A truck needs a highway, a train needs a track
I need a love like that

One little baby hidin' in the shadow
Of her daddy's hat
Lovin' and trustin' and blindly she'll follow
I need a love like that

Yeah, I need a love like that
I could use a little sun on my back
A truck needs a highway a train needs a track
And I need a love like that
Yeah, a truck needs a highway, a train needs a track
And I need a love like that....

http://youtu.be/G6Ol21PsqEo Alan Jackson - "I Still Love You"

The door still creaks, the roof still leaks
When the rain comes fallin' down
The dog still barks
At every car that comes around

My boss at work, hes still a jerk
That aint nothing new
Im such a dope, my hearts still broke
Cause, I still love you

My favorite picture of you
Is still on my window sill
You wrote to me, dont ever change
And Im afraid, I never will

When day is done, the night still comes
And I still toss and turn
I still try to have some pride
While the bridge still burns

My arms still ache, my heart still waits
And I know theres no use
Im still a fool and its so cruel
Cause, I still love you

My favorite picture of you
Is still on my window sill
You wrote to me, dont ever change
And Im afraid, I never will

The door still creaks, the roof still leaks
But that aint nothing new
Thanks for the call, I guess thats all
Except, I still love you

I once lived a few doors down to some geezer out of Hawkwind. Then again, given the turnover rate in that band, who didn't :D

在草地上 - The Him (New Order Cover)

Still in somewhat gothy mood. Any of y'all who have ears wot work and taste wot functions surely know the first New Order Album. Massively underrated and overlooked album so it is. Suppose it could be argued it sounds too much like New Order trying to be Joy Division... which would be kinda moronic as they are. Crossover album genius. Best played fukkin LOUD!!! But this Japanese acoustic cover of one of the darker, more oppressive tracks from a dark and oppressive-sounding album is just pure lushy <3

For those with interest, live version doesn't have the sound quality but is '81-era live New Order so... The album version works best played as loud as you dare <3

Or if you can't be tempted by the divisive joys of New Order...

Sonic Boom does Kraftwerk - Hall Of Mirrors (live)

Pick the bones outta that vid <3
