Marvelettes - Please Mr Postman

<3 =D

World Party When the Rainbow Comes

Mr. Postman look and see
If there's a message in your bag for me
Could be a bomb or it could be a letter
It don't matter it can only get better
Mr. Postman look anad see
If there's a message in your bag for me
You know it's been such a long long time
Since I could laugh at this world of mine
Slippin' and slidin' around in your head
It's be-bop-a-lula then baby you're dead
So c'mon make a bright new day

Morning all...

One of my fave albums of all time, this is the first dance remix album ever created by an artist, I think it was released in 1982 and I have fond memories of this one borrowing it off of a friend and taping it (Remember those, cassettes?), at the tender age of 13.

Everyone was influencing everyone at this point. Black dance culture was looking to European new wave electronic music for inspiration, just as much as European electronic artists were desperate to have some street cred and have there music played in the cool clubs.

This LP is basically considered a work of art these days, and its definitley up there as one my faves of all time.

My personal faves are @ 18.10 - Things That Dreams Are Made Of & Do Or Die which conviently is the next track to follow on from it.

The Human League - Dub Remixes - 1982 - Remixed by Martin Rushent for Virgin Records

The League Unlimited Orchestra - Love And Dancing (Full)

Good morning Sammy. :)

Are you sure, i was always under the impression the League came first?

Its definitley referenced as being so in certain quarters.

I remember that one too, although wasnt so keen to be honest.

The other one that came shortly after was Imagination - Night Dubbin, which is brilliant, still got it on vinyl and it even has a Larry Levan remix of Changes on it.

Im posting this one too cause it up there as another of my faves of all time... ;)

IMAGINATION - -NIGHT DUBBING

Soft Cell - 21 June 1982

The Human League - 17 July 1982

How close is that? :)

To be fair, I think there was more serious 'remix' work done on the League record, so it gets more recognition. I just had to defend Marc Almond's honour, as I do.

Ok you win fair and square matey, thats a mystery to me. Yeah defo the League is held in very high regard for that album and quite rightly so, cant beat playing it from start to finish with a pair of decent headphones on at home, it gets love and time from me now and then.

I wish some of the newer generation making house and club music would listen to some of this reference stuff and get a clue as to where there going wrong somewhere down the line lol.

Soft Cells great btw, Dave Ball on Keyboards. A DJ in London has recentley been working with him. Its just that album didnt impress me to much back in the day, and i have given it time since but the League is the true shining star for me.

Quite right - I can listen to this old stuff, and I'm not as knowledgeable about or accustomed to electronic music as you. There's just an energy there that's lacking nowadays. And the technology they had was fuck all really. Astounding.

Mind you, non-electronic music also sounds stale these days, give or take the odd exception. Or maybe, just maybe, we're old gits. =D

Whats your opinion on The Black Keys?

The blackies? Send 'em all home, I say.

Oh, the Black Keys. Sorry, misheard you. :)

They're a decent band who put a lot of good influences together and form their own sound. It's not something I could get too excited about, but I respect what they're doing, and would happily watch them live. I've just heard too much alternative rock in my life not to compare them to other bands, which kind of spoils it.

Lol, defo not! As far as dance music in concerned, the oldies dont get enough play with me at home. Im always listerning to new music, in the dance scene 80 per cent of it is throw away garbage trust me. You really do have to filter out the crap, and you can tell there not in any way musically minded whatsoever, theres no soul or heart put into most of it at all.

The best DJs i no spend most there whole life listening to garbage just to find the rare gem that deserves airtime in there sets.

I hope your DJ friend has checked he still has his wallet/watch etc. Dave Ball is a typical music industry cunt, Soft Cell or not. He ripped off my brother-in-law for half a million quid.

Well i dont no the person in question your talking about personally so am unable to chat about libel comments online about someone...

As hes still working in the industry i would imagine its not hard to track someone down these days if your brother in law feels that something illegal took place...

Libel is when something isn't true. How much do you think a number one record in ten countries in the 1990's is worth?

As i say, your trying to draw me into a conversation that i no nothing about, so you can chat about whatever you like, but ill be finishing that convo here...

Ive just checked and hes definitly traceable on facebook so there you go that would be of been obvious anyway, if it was me id take the matter up in person.

Naturally im not going to get involved in character assasination about someone who i do not no online, regardless whether what is is being discussed is true or false.

Back to music i think... :\

Did Dave Ball even have a number 1 hit in ten countries during the nineties? :?

Even swamp thing didn't hit number one in any of the countries in which it charted, and that was the biggest thing he did during that period.

Unless there's some project of which I'm not aware of his involvement in...
