What Are You Listening To? v. Music to my ears (NO EMBEDS)

I love all sorts of dance music. I grew up listening to commercial 70's disco and soul at home from the family, then my older cousin got me into electro when i was about 11 or 12 years old, it was all brand new obviously then. I was still listening to British and American dance and soul at the same time in the early 80's also, then house started coming out about 1985 when i was 14. Then the acid house scene exploded when i was leaving school, took my first e and that was it. The rest was history...

Im sure theres many people around my age group that went through exactly the same things as me in life... =D

Sadly not, m'dear. First track is way too fast and really nothing like it - but bonus points for finding some other tune that uses that same sample =D

Second is a stone cold classic and definitely not it but saves me from having to look it up to add to my favourites folder so thanks again =D

Last tune I don't recall offhand but probably did at one point and contains many of my fave sounds so again =D

The Jello Biafro/techno tune was early 90s with a very basic "boom-boom-boom-boom" beat, a simple piano loop ("doo-doo-be-do-doo-be-doo-be-dooby-doo") sample was sped up and slowed down and rewound at various suitable points (that may have been the DJ rather than the original record but not sure) and an absolutely pounding semi-acid bassline/heavy oldskool techno bassline comes in about halfway through. Been looking for that forever. Still have it on a mixtape a friend of a friend mixed on his barge (which he named 'Onion' - cos it's a barge, see? :D). Doubt I'll ever find it cos is the only place I know it from but was the tune that really got me fond of that thar ravey stuff I'd previously been a bit wary of due to being mostly into wankier stuff (ambient, acid, "IDM" (fukkin acronym again :!)). Opened my mind to such things long, long before I ever took MDMA and am pretty sure I'd still appreciate it. One of these days...

Automatic Tasty - Free All Parties Now

Name that sample in one ;)

Oh, and as far as electro goes, the two tracks which stand out most in my mind (bearing in mind I was pre-pubescent at the time) were one which I'm guessing might have been called Terminator X cos it said it a lot and t'other one was mostly based around "The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire - burn motherfucker, burn!" - but not the really well known one... or all the other really well known ones which use that too... I really must look into some of these linkies properly cos they will please me =D

Lucky in may ways to have been able to be out and about dancing to all that. My music tastes is all over the place...soon as I have totally hammered the booze and speed today think I will be about these threads for a while longer. Hmm feeling a bit Northern soulish in mood.

edit-sorry only the first one was what I could find that it may have been..2nd track just a favourite of mine..unconnected.

Terminator X is by Public Enemy Public Enemy-Rebel Without A Pause

Ya, I know (and is a classic wot I duz <3) but this was years prior to that. Am also big on the ol' hippity-hoppity so hope I'd recoginise PE even in hindsight. Must've been ~86ish I heard it but wasn't a new tape and '83 rings a bell with me. Was a rap tune but definitely not PE and sounded much more oldskool than they are - as in the... well.. electro era of hip hop from the early 80s. But again - thanks for the linky =D

EDIT: I lied. Has to be at least '84-85ish cos contained several Terminator (the film) samples.

One of my alltime fave albums <3

Tricky - Makes Me Wanna Die

<3 that song more than I <3 most things in life. Not all things but enough to make this a four <3 post <3

Tricky - Christiansands (Elvis Costello's Imposter Mix)

Brillant remix - and I don't even like Elvis Costello (sorry, sacriliege I know but I just never did, sorry)

Shambles just tell me it's this one regardless as it's fucking dementing now.

Tell you for real or for really real?

Not it... but you have no idea how impressed I am at the effort involved and have liked all even if not the particular one so by some reckonings you're winning by some considerably margin. Not that tune - and not at all like it either - but am rather fond of Liberator & The Geezer (more so when especially perky =D) and have never heard that one so my favourites folder is bulging all the same =D

Still on type but am greatly enjoying the outside input from all sides :D

Global Goon - MAKEmE

Eat Static - Abnormal Interference

Ya, I know y'all're sick of me acidic linkies so feel free to skip the former... but you'll be missing some ubersquelchy goodly badness...

Second one ain't really acid... dunno quite what genre you'd call it but is the Ozrics more electronic-based offshoot as introduced to me by BLegened Carsick/Michael who probably nobody much remembers these days (sadly died some years back - long before we had the commemorative thread. The fact the RIP thread was started by Evad/Dave only makes it all the more poignant (sorry for wankiness but it is) for any who recall that era. Michael was the first BLer I ever met and a truly wonderful human being. Dave I never did meet but we spoke about it frequently... he was proper Oop North though and didn't like to venture Daaahn Saaarf to the Brizzle meets which were a regular(ish) thing back then.

Blimey. I do believe that would be nostalgia. Mostly in the original sense of actual pain felt due to being away from home for too long <3

I really should get around to properly listening to more of that fella's tunes cos like the ones I've heard but never given proper listening.

Yagya - Sleepygirl 1

And credit where it's due - that thar Jello Biafo-based tune wot I was so a-hankered after appears to be lodged (around 13m or so in) amidst this 'ere acid mix wot Mz Flo just did dun find for me. Is smothered in overlaid stuff but definitely recognisable cos has some very distinctive sounds that I didn't even try to describe and they are here too so has to be the same track albeit mixed very differently - nicely done, m'dear =D<3

Dirge <3

(that ain't dirge though - sweet it is but dirge it surely ain't... will spare you actual dirge though ;))

And that other track you found along the way is well deserving of a linky here too...

Coldcut (ft Jello Biafra) - Every Home A Prison

Not so sure this will be your kinda thing, m'dear... but is mine and who knows without trying it?

Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - Beat That My Heart Skipped

Catchy lil ditty is that and one of my faves amongst many a fave down thattaway... I may have mentioned that before in this thread :o
