Hey mydrugbuddy,

Just wanted to lyk that I checked out those tunes you sent me and wanted to thank you for introducing me to something new. It's always cool to expand my self imposed limitations as much as possible!

I'm not sure if it's just me, but I didn't hear an overwhelming Verve influence in those particular songs, but I did enjoy them. My brain was still partially fried yesterday, so that could also affect comprehension skills, lol. If I were to compare, I'd liken them to the more 'popular' Verve songs, which are different than the ones I sent you, so you may very well hate what I offered up, haha. But it's all about what we connect with, right?

Still, I'll be sure to delve deeper and check out more of their catalogue in the near future, as I'd like to hear how they've grown/changed over the years. I'm always interested in that, as you can tell. Thanks again, and happy listening in all your auditory endeavors! :)

maybe its just me thats made up this verve connection that maybe only tenuous at best. Anyway thats not really important, Im glad you enjoyed the tracks.

Heres another of their very greatest imo, theres so many its hard to narrow it down

(i think this is a blatant attack on their music critics, who were rather dismissive of the band IIRC. Im so glad i stopped buying the NME at around age 17/18 and then just occasionally read Q magazine on the shelf in WHSmiths from then on. I allways make up my own mind about music now, and really could not give a shit what the critics say is good or bad. The critics famously got it completely wrong about many a band and artist that was to go on to become respected and massive; typically i cant think of any examples right now, but the Smash Hits reviewers were allways the worst cullprits.)

Darklands, Automatic, psychocandy, in that order i think. They were my number 1 band back in the day of Darklands. Jim Reid is such a great and cool singer its very perverse of them to keep his voice so low in the soundmix especially on psychocandy. It worked though. It was a cult classic. Darklands and Automatic (Halfway to Crazy is my favourite track on Automatic, wtf why didnt they realease it as a single is beyond me, it was obviously, potentially a massive hit. wtf happened i wonder) were increasingly commercial, and the songs were a bit more complicated and polished in the production, but they still kept their style and their soul. The songs on psychocandy are nearly all incredibly simple 2 or 3 chord wonders, but what they could do with those 2 or 3 chords was pretty fuckin good.

Its cool that the Americans and UK bands fans seem to have a mutual respect for each other, we are kind of world leaders together in terms of music talent, its rare for a respected talent to come from anywhere else. American bands somehow have a "bigger" sound though. Like Band of Horses, i saw them in a smallish venue and for the first time understood what is meant by a "bigger sound." Maybe they just know how to do the soundchecks better, but they were fuckin awesome.

Not listened to those tunes for ages, they are cool, stylish, BIG, ambitious tracks, nothing wrong with your taste. :D The first one is almost heavy rock territory, the 2nd more of a punk melody, which i prefer, but all done in JAMC styleeeee.

A road trip doesnt have quite the same sense of adventure in the UK, taking a drive down the M6 doesnt halfway near as cool as taking highway61 lol.
