Dark and depressing cuz it's probably just some nerd playing black metal in his basement all alone.
This band had 3 members & even did some live shows. Took me a total of 2.5 seconds to find that out.

And even if they were a one-man band making music, so fucking what? Are people not allowed to express themselves without going to an expensive & fancy polished studio?

The cheap basement sound gives it a more authentic atmosphere & sound IMO, compared to Celtic Frost's later polished up & manufactured for consumerism sound. Give me Hellhammer demos over that crap any day. Unless every instrument is completely incomprehensible, then I think it's ridiculous to act like it can't be listenable music.

Just for that, here have some more...

i'm listening on my laptop, using the inbuild speakers.
but i kind of like this after the first 30 or so seconds.
reminds me of dubious concerts in dirty old cellars.
Yeah a lot of Evil's early work gives off that dirty basement sound. I love it honestly, it gives it a sense of authenticity, knowing they didn't sit around in a "professional studio" tweaking every aspect of their sound. It adds to that "coldness" and disparate sound that Black Metal should have.

Blood and War is a great track by Evil, but unfortunately it's not on Youtube, cause they're technically an NSBM band.

Me and a female friend actually put out a split a couple years back with the drummer from Evil & his side project. It was pretty weird to be releasing music next to artists that I've been listening to since I was a kid. lol

I actually can't stand polished up or overly cheesy black metal. Say for example Immortal.... First 2 albums were great & had some soul to them. But then they started making their music more polished up & the riffs became more generic chugga-chugga heavy metal riffs, rather than the tremelo riffs that makes black metal sound catchy.

So yeah, I much prefer a band like Evil with a cold basement sound over a sell-out band like Immortal (or even later Celtic Frost) who polish up their sound to get more listeners.
