What are you listening to? Part XXX - Sexxxy tunes for sexxxy folks

Did you hear the new boxed ser LAMF album by johnny and the heartbreakers? Tremendous stuff. Good video they made too:

That's amazing!

How have I missed this band!?

They sound like a cross between The Ramones and The Damned. Can't go wrong with a sound like that!

(Just seen the youtube notes that it was mostly composed by Dee Dee Ramone, so there is that.)

Best punk era band, probably.

All brilliant musicians, but unfortunately junkies. Jerry Nolan is the definite best drummer of the era.

Killer band and a killer album LAMF - but in ' 77 the album mix was terrible so it died a death. 30 years later they remixed it and you can hear how great it is. The other famous song is "Born to lose". They were all junkies so it fell apart after that one album.

Dee Dee wrote it but Johnny always tried to claim he wrote it even tho the guy calling on the phone actually says "hey, is Dee Dee home?"

Its hot as a bitch, i shoulda been rich but im just digging a chinese ditch

I think Richard Hell wrote a verse too. But yeah, Johnny tried to claim it for his band.

Fun fact: It was a Ramones song that Johnny Ramone didn't want to record because of the subject matter. Eventually they recorded it, but changed the Dee Dee lyric to 'Arty' (Arturo Vega).

Yeah I never rated the ramones version - the heartbreakers were like the wildest punk band but also incredible, talented players. I love Johnny's guitar playing - those mutant slides he does and that chuck berry lick he mutilates. He could sing too.

I still think "They said hey is Dee Dee home?" could be the best lyric in rock history!

Have you heard the live albums? This one in particular.

I find it really weird that Walter Lure was the second guitarist / singer and then quit being a junky to work on Wall Street.

All dead now.

Marky Ramone's wig. Fucking hell.

Wow - is that about 20 years after it had all fallen off? Lemmy said he dyed his hair and had a hair transplant "You don't need one cos you're not going onstage all night right? I'd look like methusulah"

He was losing it in the late seventies. This was his solution.

I never suspected him tho looking at it now it does seem rather obvious.

I was shocked when it turned out this year that Mickey Rourke wears a syrup - I always thought he had a big head of rock n roll hair.

I know The Only Ones, but it was mostly one (outstanding) tune.
That's not the case at all, and the point which I tried to address, in the post to which you gave the above response.

It was one well known tune, the one that nearly everyone knows, but that was far from their best or most outstanding tune.

For anyone who digs a little deeper there is a wealth of brilliant material to be found.

It's bloody terrible imho.
Yeah it didn't do lot for me either, but it maybe sounded a bit like a mixture of many other prominent and unique female solo vocalists, eg Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell, Tori Amos, and some more recent ones too that I cant think of right now, but just not as good as any of them.

I just never thought there was much to get excited about other than that one sublime song. I may be wrong.

Laura Nyro isn't for everyone, but she was well respected and revered by almost all her contemporaries for a reason. Listen to how many octaves she can cover with zero effort.

But that doesn't always translate to popular appeal.
