What are you listening to? Part XXX - Sexxxy tunes for sexxxy folks

This is probably my favourite jungle/DnB set of all time. Tune after tune after tune and absolute fire on the mic from Stevie hyper, getting me absolutely liveo listening to this.

Just heard the news that Nik Turner, founder member of Hawkwind and longtime uk free festival and general counterculture legend has passed away

he was 82 though, so there's that!

I didn't 'know' him, but have been to parties on his land a couple of times and hung out in his house for a night once...have also heavily seshed with him at another highly memorable party back in 2001 when his band played for free at a wedding party

Here he is (the mad looking guy on sax who introduces the song) playing with Hawkind at the Stonehenge Free Festival 1984. This was young partyfiend's first ever festival and most definitely a lifechanging event. Remarkably enough @F.U.B.A.R. was also at same said event and we both saw this set...hell maybe we shared a spliff who knows RIP NIK

I've also only just found this out - literally a few minutes ago.

Why didn't it make National news? I demand a week of mourning, a public holiday and 24/7 showings of Nik in concert.

R.I.P. Nik <3

me too, literally a few minutes before posting - synchronicity!

I must go to bed now but I think I'll dedicate tomorrow to his memory , get extremely stoned and crank up some of his better work very loud and give the street a bit of a shake

Yeh, I was just about to log onto BL and the announcement of his passing was at the top of my Google newsfeed. Then when I got onto BL yours was the first post I read. Synchronicity indeed!

(Except I was getting up, whereas you were still up - you APF you...)

Another XFM classic, many of my posts on this thread are my favourite tracks that I've heard on there. It's such a good station (or such a good match for my taste) but it's only weakness is that the playlists can be a bit limited and repetitive. As it's a commercial station too it does inevitably go for the more commercial and popular end of the indie / alternative rock spectrum. But I'm fine with that on my commutes to and from work. I've discovered many great tracks thanks to that station.

Here's another one of them, I love the way the track 'takes it down' in the middle, dampening the sound right down, and then gradually building it back up again. I love tracks that do that well, and it can't be done much better than it was done here. It's brilliant and intense, with some semi psychedelic sounding 'morphing' going on, gradually building things back up again. The lyrics are good too.

I never even heard of hawkwind till recently on bl a bit before my time but have to say they are right up my street wouldnt mind listening to them on acid at some point aswell 😎.... RIP Nik Turner.

that's the idea... :) a liitle ditty Nik wrote and sings on this one too

I am the centre of this universe
The wind of time is blowing through me
And it's all moving relative to me
It's all a figment of my mind
In a world that I've designed
I'm charged with cosmic energy
Has the world gone mad or is it me?

I am the creator of this universe
And all that it was meant to be
So that we might learn to see
The foolishness that lives in us
And stupidity that we must suss
How to banish from our minds
And if you call this living I must be blind

Like, always about really cool shit. And like, poetry and stuff like that. But like how everythings just all me because we're all connected and things like that..

Disc 1 (11pm) of this beaut from 2002 (blended to perfection by JOOF)

Obviously heard it, and not sure if I mentioned, genuinely btw, but joof was my DJ influence. Dark underground trance and progressive. You would probably love what I play as it's oldschool joof but imo he lost it and sold out mostly, and I can't stand his rants which are hilarious.

Tracklist please?

Starts off a bit like the Analord series by AFX but then goes into a lush House / Future Garage hybrid.
It's just amazing music & I love it, for fans of Bicep & that kinda sound.

I personally find much of Hawkwind to be far too heavy duty for acid. Mushrooms and speed is where its at.

Hawkwind take aural assault to the next level.

Had my first full blown mushroom trip at a gig on the aptly named 'Sonic Attack' tour in 1981/82. Fuck, that was intense...

yeah/no/yeah

Better on shrooms than acid I'd say yeah, the lsow epid builds/falls whooshes are just made for mushrooms..but then again some tunes can be incredible on acid, espacially at the exact right point in your trip, shit like this, exactly like this (this is live aaaha) ...also the rest of the Space Ritual album

also shit like this, lsd loves it!

and ofc they were awesome live on acid too, must've seen em half a dozen times on acid and shrooms a cpl times...was on acid at the stonehenge clip above somewhwre, and also at this show here, another one you were also at too iirc? mental day that was

well it was a bit before even your time, but yeah understood

I've never seen this footage before, what an epic version of this...same gig we were at again..wow

Was that the Acid Daze gig?

Missed the fuckin train home that night and ended up hitch hiking across the Yorkshire moors with a transvestite punk and a head full of mushrooms to a mate's farm in Beverley.

And yes, we actually got a couple of lifts.

Different times...
