What Are You Listening To: MD Weekly Radio Show

The Star In This Solar System Is Mister Ballard Who Taught Me Government & Economics @ Augusta Prep. His Real Name Is ADAM. As In The Book Of Genesis.

This album has some insanely good drums and crunchy fast guitar chugs. Compared to some of the competition of year 1991 (Morbid Angel, Autopsy, Atheist), the production is leagues beyond. But it's not as tight as Disincarnate's sole album from 1993 which is peak death metal for me.

Straight up rock'n'roll, almost pop music with the perfect clean execution despite the usual dark themes. The lyrics are perfectly audible which is both an immense feat and something that should be a stylistic standard. The only thing missing from Disincarnate is some off-kilter weirdness like Immolation or Cryptopsy has.

Sometimes one can trace death metal development from something like this.

"Well the river looks cold and the bottom is a long way down
If you're really gonna leave me that's where i'm gonna be found

When the mailman comes in the morning
There's a note upon my door
Says to bring my mail to the bottom of the river
I don't live here no more

I'm a man who's got nothing but sweet love on my mind"

Death metal wouldn't typically mention the mailman or even love of course but other than that there is some kind of legacy i think. It's kind of endearing to see the evolution from describing sad love to plunging into death and decay as the predominant theme.

I don't think i've heard any douchebag pop metal band as good as Ratt.

It says on Wikipedia they were rivals with Mötley Crüe but seriously what good tracks does that band have? Any listening suggestions? Or other similar bands that could challenge my notions.

So much cringe (wonderful/terrible) Hair Metal but... alongside that era...maybe the obvious.🧐
