What Are You Drinking? v. Free bar you say...?

Cheers Mr. 23! The encouragement's appreciated. ;)

I cracked and had some 'medicinal' brandy yesterday and I'm going to have a few beers at a mate's place this evening but other than that I'm not craving oblivion half as much as I was. The sweet drink thing is true for me too. I've been hammering grape juice and Barr's original cola. Goth 'n' roll it isn't.

Now that I've got a crush on Marmalade / stalking her, she is influencing my every move.

At 7.3% I thought three would be enough, it's fucking nice though.

Soaking it up with three special sausages, carror/swede mash, brocolli cheese and gravy. A winter warmer.

lawdy, I'm impressed!

hmn, but it's in a glass by crickey! try it against one from the bottle and you'll stick with bottle. honest. it's like reverting back to being pre-weened =D

I'm just on my third bottle since it's currently on 3 for £4 at asda which makes it a bargain. cheaper and ten times more palatable than a bottle of bad quality generic red wine for the same price. it's definitely one of the tastiest of the high strength generic beers imo. scottish too, so it should flow thru your veins nicely.

You mean neck it from the bottle, student style? No lovely wide-mouthed glass receptacle? A sure recipe for beer foam up the nose I would have thought? Presumanbly not for you but my nasal passages may be bigger and more prone to accommodating beer foam.

I will say this, I hope you are not chilling it, I think it serves best at, or perhaps a shade below room temperature. I feel that way about most ales. Lager/pils etc must be cold of course, but that's because you don't want to allow lager to develop it's so-called "flavour". Only lager that's really worth drinking in by book is Staropramen, although I can enjoy a Red Stripe, Kronenbourg or a Heineken. Stella, Tennents, McEwans, Budweiser, Fosters, Carlsberg etc are all no-go areas for me.

I'm not a huge fan of Guiness (unless we're talking the foreign exports as discussed earier in this thread) but I find the recent trent for Extra-Cold to be a bit contrarian. Avoiding chilling brings out flavours, and Guiness definitely has plenty of that. Also I've been told in one pub that it's exactly the same product as the normal stuff except it's passes through a "supercooler". The pub in question charged 80p more for the Extra Cold which I thought was a ripoff but this may not be a common practice.

Right, finally, on to the movies thread.

Oh wait, before I do that, have you tried "Old Jock" from Broughton Breweries (based in the village of Broughton, next to the town of Dunbar, on the south coast of the Firth of Forth)? It's a favourite of mine, nice and strong at 6.4%, dark and full of flavour yet quaffable. It might be available in your local ASDA or Tesco.

It surprises me, but having drunk a lot of proper beer of both English and Scottish varieties, I find the Scottish beers are just all-round better quality. The flatness of many English beers is never a good start, I like a good head to my pint.

Fuck it all this talk of beer is making me thirsty, I'm opening my third bottle.

yes, 'student' style. or maybe that's just for nesbits like me

now you're comfortably through your 3 bottle trial, I am wondering about whether you're feeling the lovely next morning 'afterglow' btw. and by afterglow, I don't mean hangover.
Despite my usual profanity ridden posting habits, for some reason the only explanation of it I can allow myself to type is, 'windypops' ...

it's certainly got it's own after-aroma. or maybe that's just me =D, in which case, ignore this and move swiftly onto another thread ;p

A four pack of Zwyiec and now I'm sipping Jameson's. Feeling fairly loose.

Please don't take advantage...

Moet & Chandon 2002 Grande Vintage Rose Champagne! my boss gave me a bottle for my christmas (was my secret santa from him) he knows I like a glass of champers now and then, very nice of him:)

The remainder of last night's Jamo's. Tastes better with a little splash of regret from having got bladdered yesterday.

Taking it slowly this afternoon, but the gloom isn't helping.

a few btls of coffee and oatmeal stout from the Dungarvan brewing company.its a seasonal beer, another quality offering from a great little brewery.

coffee and a reefer. day off innit.

not that it'd be any different if it wasn't my day off, I'd just have started 5 hours ago rather than now.

I'm drinking . . . I know I know it's disgusting but it was the cheapest at the bar, fosters. I'm at the airport and am too early so killing time in the bar reading trashy gossip magazines and mostly gazing out the window at planes while playing with the internet on my phone. I'm exhausted, I ended up on the nod on the bus . Can't wait to see my dad and sister. will be first time swine September, and only second time in a year and a half. This is going to be a good Christmas.
