What are you currently reading? v2

SHM's choice of 25/9 should be compulsory reading.

Michael Chabon - Telegraph Avenue. Just started so no opinion yet, but doubt I'll be disappointed.

Buying books is much better IMHO, loads of good ocr scans now of the books I read and no problem with reading them on tabs or pc , but there is nothing like the physical feel of a book

Its like comparing wanking to sex
Wanking= Tablet - E reader
Holding the book = Sexmagictime

( case you guys were wondering)

Interesting view, I only read physical books to my children. I listen to audio books, they have given me access to literature I just would not have without them.

Currently :- Stranger in a Strange Land - Robert A. Heinlein

I am reading The Business by Iain Banks. I guess it's pretty good so far as I've done in 150 pages since about 8.30.

I got a Kindle, returned it and then got a second hand one as a friend updraded to a fire.

I'm coming round to it. Books are heavy and a pain in the ass when you have to move house, not worth it if they're just cheap commonly available paperbacks and not gifts or sentimental.
I have many books which I treasure but it was getting silly, especially with 20p charity shop paperbacks. I won't give them up though, just get better at taking them back to the charity shop & not hoarding them.

The good thing about the kindle is I could pick pretty much any book in this thread that takes my fancy and boom have it for bedtime reading tonight. no hassle. Gets expensive though, amazon are very good at taking your money without you hardly noticing...

i'm reading The Corfu trilogy by Gerald Durrell, he writes about the island so beautifully, you almost feel you're there.

I guess, going on Liberal Media's analogy, we'll have to compare audiobooks to one of those fucking machines from the pornos...
Lie back and think of England atm23

I wouldn't swat a fly with a kindle. Actually I wouldn't swat a fly, usual strategy is to open a window and say 'get out'. Often, they do. Bees seem to be less obliging.

I've been hooked on Lee Child's Jack Reacher series of books recently. Excellent reads if you like a crime/thriller

I'm so 21 century me :)... just started this one and enjoying it, the do have to be read by someone with decent skills though, you can get free ones (real free ones ;) ) from LibriVox but in general they are substandard.

Read by the author can be something else, Burroughs recorded a lot of his work, Break Through Grey Room is an audio work of art he put together using the cut up technique with audio tape, well worth a listen.

I've got a copy of Willl Selfs Umbrella, I'm not really into the stream of consciousness style writing to be honest though. It's good so far though.

When the lights went out - what really happened to Britain in the Seventies, Andy Beckett

Stop! Don't read this - Leonora Rustamova

With thanks.

I go through phases of reading loads then nothing for a while - these are the last few that I went through

The Passage - Justin Cronin (Brilliant)
Micro - Richard Preston
Angelology - Danielle Trussoni
We need to talk about Kevin - Lionel Shriver (really dark book)
Dog Blood - David Moody
Midnight/Nightfall - Stephen Leather

Currently trying to read - but struggling getting into them
The first family - Mike Dash
1434 - Gavin Menzies

I think that "The Entities" want me to read "The Hidden Reality - Brian Greene" next but I've not yet finished the book he wrote before. I might give into the entities demands though as I only bought the 2nd book because I saw it when I was buying The Hidden Reality. It's about 6 years newer than the one I was reading too so gonna get on that one tomorrow.

As song of ice and fire, a storm of swords. :)
Got really into game of thrones awhile back and cant wait till March to find out what happens! Liking it so far.

^Incredible series, i've already re-read them and they were even better on the re-read since you actually know who everyone is, pity he takes so long to write each book 2014 at least before the winds of winter come out

Glamorama - Bret Easton Ellis

Good so far, pretty funny and certainly better than the last book I read of his (Lunar Park - pretty terrible honestly). Time will tell if it's on the same level as American Psycho.

Chris Morris Biog. been reading it on and off for way too long. this weekend it's getting finished. it just makes you want to go off and rewatch whatever show is being written about as youre reading though, so it's fucking unhelpful in actually getting the thing read.

well written though

Just finished this.. +1 on Marmz' comment.. going to give Jam another look, and see if I can find the Blue Jam audio about too

I've got the Blue Jam CD if you can't find a place to 'purchase' it yourself <3

The 10 most difficult books to finish
(apparently) – in pictures

I have a free copy of Umbrella to read coming shortly (hopefully), and I'll need to have a dictionary to hand (as always) when I read it, since my vocabulary is so fucking poor, and Will writes with words beyond those I know or understand ...

Got a free copy of this recently too .... so gonna make a start on it in the next few days
