Why is it that cocaine and Wellbutrin are totally different if they are both dopamine reuptake inhibitors? Will a large dose of Wellbutrin have effects similar to cocaine? I'm thinking no, but logic tells me yes. Can anyone provide some insight into this?

The action of cocaine is extremely powerful and much shorter acting when compared to wellbutrin. Also, I imagine that at any sort of dose that theoretically could or could not produce any effect similar to cocaine of wellbutrin would cause extremely dangerous or fatal side effects.
Not to mention that wellbutrin as its used for sucks ass in the first place.
I have no idea about the pharmacology of the two comparatively, but I doubt wellbutrin functions in exactly the same way as cocaine anyway, there must be variations.

some people SAY you can get high off wellbutrin. I am not telling you to do this, but if you go to erowid they have some reports on this 'dirty' drug being abused.. something like cocaine hellz NO? cocaine sucks more. JK..

people who say they use wellbutrin recreationally usually use it with another drug, and often bupropion seems to make things worse than normal

Cocaine is, amphetamines are NOT.
Wellbutrin is a VERY WEAK dopamine inhibitor, as someone explained. Furthermore, Wellbutrin affects other neurotransmitters, as does cocaine, but in different ratios/degrees. Also, it is likely that Wellbutrin and cocaine target DIFFERENT KINDS of dopamine and other neurotransmitter receptors...thus resulting in different kinds of effects.
It is interesting to note, however, that my bf, who gets very little out of cocaine recreationally, also doesn't respond much to Wellbutrin.

I take 400 mg wellbutrin daily, which is the maximum dose. I really could use more. This is the dose the FDA approved years ago when it was first introduced, but clinical trials used doses twice this amount without a significant increase in the seizure risk. (Paxil, one of the most-prescribed antidepressants, has a higher seizure risk.)
When I first started taking it, I would compare the feeling to a mild-but-prolonged coke high. That lasted about a week before I stabilized a bit on the drug. I've been taking it for 2 years now and I cannot function without it. Even the SR seems to wear off in about 6-8 hours.
As for the coke combo, I've never tried coke while not on wellbutrin, so I can't really do a comparison test. If I opt to not take it for 2 days to test the effects of coke, it would be extremely biased because wellbutrin has a very lethargic withdrawal for me.
I like coke a lot and it works just fine on me, maybe even better. However, DO NOT blow wellbutrin alongside your coke. I tried this because wellbutrin tastes so bad and coke would numb me up, and the effects include sweating, nausea, and rapid heartbeat. I thought I was going to die.
