does anyone know if wellbutrin produces any drug like side effects, yesterday i was stopped by a cop for crossing on a green light but the pedestrian crossing signal was on red, he almost arrested me for being high saying my eyes were pinned and i looked like i was on speed, but the only thing i had taken was 1 150mg er pill of wellbutrin. is it possible that the wellbtutrin caused these symptoms or was the cop probably making them up?

Bupropion, the active ingredient in Wellbutrin, can have a speedy or stimulant effect in some people. There is research showing it is moderately effective as a weight loss drug, and I personally can attest that it helped me shed weight when I used it for a year or so. In regard to the cop, impossible for us to say. There are so many variables as to how or why am cop may behave. "Almost" arresting you for jaywalking because your eyes look pinned and you "may" be high is just a bullshit excuse to try and scare you into revealing info, like that you are holding and may act nervous, probable cause, etc. I think it isnequally possible the cop was making it up and that you were giving off vibes of nervousness because, well, you had a cop fucking with you and it made you nervous.

I've never taken it, but from accounts of my friends that have been rx'd it in the past it has some fairly nasty side effects for a good while until the body gets used to it. If you just started taking it a little while back, you may well have looked a bit messed up.

It's a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor so without a doubt it can have a speedy effect in some people.

Wellbutrin can have stimulant effects. Stimulants tend to cause pupil dilation, not constriction, however.

It is entirely possible that you seemed like you were on speed. The side effects you describe are common for Wellbutrin and other stimulants. However, we're not lawyers and this is something you should probably talk to your lawyer about.

Cop was making it up. This is just me, but I take 450mg XL daily, and another anti-depressant besides, and I've never had symptoms like that- except when I am actually doing stims! Also not an unusual cop tactic- accuse, accuse, accuse. This is also why, if charged with something, you don't talk to cops without a lawyer. Ever. No matter how innocent you are, they are highly motivated to pin something on you, and will.

Wellbutrin can definately cause stimulant effects, as it's closely related to cathinones (Mephedrone, MDPV etc..). The reason that these effects are barely noticed, is because of the poor oral BA,and the low dosages that the tabletst come in. With higher absorption or dosages taken orally Bupropion can cause some pretty standard stimulant effects, though it's insane to do so as you're lowering your seizure threshold significantly with a drug that people still have seizures off of at therapeutic dosages.

When I was doing outreach work, I actually knew a guy that IV'd this stuff quite a bit. IIRC, he said he started using it in jail/prison because it was available to him (This was around the time Ontario jails/Candian prisons went smoke free and they prescribed to inmates since they wouldn't be allowed to smoke anymore). Dude had some pretty dramatic seizures afterward on a few occasion.

the first day i took welbutrin 225mg dose i noticed some profound speedy efects, hand tremors, more energy...i was pleasantly surprised it worked so quickly but the good effects diminished after a short while and i was left with nothing but edginess...im getting off of it..
