Wellbutrin (bupropion) and buprenorphine

Been taking 150 mg of wellbutrin per day for about three weeks. Today is the first time at 300 mg. Is it safe to take ~0.8 mg of buprenorphine? The primary concern would be the seizure threshold. Does bupe lower it, or affect it in any way?

I used to take 200mg wellbutrin twice a day and 32mg suboxone a day for 3 years. I never had a seizure. Are they prescribed by the same doctor? If so, I don't THINK they would give you something that would cause that without an anti-seizure medication. Are you prone to seizures?

Yes I have benzos (lorazepam), no they are not from the same doctor. Also I have no history of seizures nor am I epileptic.

A low dose would be .5 mg? How would it affect the bupe? It's not being used for maintenance...

Even without the benzo, what kind of risk are we talking? Would it be a poor decision to do it without one? If one were to not take their wellbutrin dose one day and do the bupe then, would there still be risks associated with the previous doses?

A lower dosage of lorazepam will mildly interact with the buprenorphine, just like any benzo would interact with any opiate. However, 0.5mg lorazepam is a pretty low dosage. Assuming you're used to/tolerant to the dosage of buprenorphine you plan on taking, you should be fine.

Without the benzo, we're talking a risk. While chances are that you won't have a seizure, taking two drugs that lower the seizure threshold is just that, a risk. I would take the benzo. If anything, you can lower the buprenorphine dosage a bit so the mix of lorazepam and buprenorphine isn't too sedating.

The half-life of Wellbutrin (bupropion) is 20 hours, which means most, but not all, of your Wellbutrin will be out of your system after two days (48 hours). I would wait two days if possible.

However, if you do take the benzo (doesn't have to be lorazepam...diazepam (Valium) and clonazepam (Klonopin) are both effective anticonvulsants as well).

To the people recommending he take benzos; people that take these medication under a doctors supervision take it daily or on multiple occasions throughout the day. A benzo is not the correct way to prevent seizures since they cant be taken for long periods of time and then discontinued without aftereffects such as .. lowering seizure threshold. Wellbutrin + bupe I've been taking it every day 2mg bupe in the morning and 200mg wellbutrin morning/night, it's turned my world around from when I was heavily abusing opis/amps. But the combo should be contraindicted for anyone with risk/history of seizures.
