In Polish culture we celebrate Wigilia. We eat a meatless meal, break oplateki (similar to the altar bread at church) which exchanges good wishes for health, wealth and happiness and also wait for the first star in the sky which commemorates the birth of christ. Big Big deal in Polish Tradition festivities.
My brother decided this year he'd rather slut around cos it's a friday night then be at home with his family. My mum has been drinking all day because of it. My dads been trying to attempt to talk to my mum which resulted in him slamming the door and walking out. I don't know where he's gone or for how long.
I had dinner with mum. Trying to cheer her up so she won't cry. There was no breaking of oplatki, and theres not a star in the sky.
I couldn't hold back the tears any longer.
The only thing that keeps me from cracking a shit is knowing that theres people less fortunate than me out there.
