Hey everyone this is my first post/thread. When ever i drop acid i always get this weird feeling in my back during the trip and then it gradualy goes away as the trip fades. The feeling is like a urge to move my back almost like restless leg syndrom but in my back, which makes it hard to just lay down and relax. But I was wondering if anyone else gets this weird feeling or if its just me?

It's definitely not just you, don't worry. Muscle tension is quite common with various psychedelics. I always get it but usually towards the end of the peak of the trip.

Massage can help immensely (and feels awesome too ;)). Regular painkillers like Nurofen can also help but always make sure you eat something before you take Nurofen as it can be harmful to the lining of your stomach otherwise. Heatpacks are also fantastic for easing muscle tension but aren't always a viable option (e.g. if you're out at a party). But if you're just tripping at home definitely use a heatpack.

Other than that, just getting up and walking around or dancing can act as a distraction method so you forget about the discomfort. As we all know, a tripping mind is easily distracted ;)

Good luck!

Oh and also, mods, this might be more useful in PD? I'm sure a lot of other trippers have come across this issue at some stage :)

Heh i actually find doing a nang when i feel some sort of discomfort while tripping works a treat. It numbs my body, and makes me totally forget about the discomfort because i am too busy having a awesome psychedelic experience :D

Nangs can also help with taking your mind off the nausea and at times and can help the nausea. But keep in mind - not every time. depends if it's just a unsettled stomach, or if you need to spew. If you need to spew then just spew. Nangs wont save you.

It might make sense that you get weird feelings in your back while tripping; your spinal cord is the center of your nervous system. It sends the sense of touch throughout your whole body. When you're messed up on drugs, your brain has to receive the messages of "trippiness" from your spinal cord, so I guess that implies it makes your back "trippy" too.

I get this on lucy too. A strong tension/discomfort in my back where I have this insatiable desire to stretch but no matter how much I do I'm still restless. Must look bizare to an onlooker as I twist & contort myself trying to get comfortable :D

8)Thats because when the acid gets absorbed into your bloodstream it goes into you spine.
You should know this Acid isn't good afterwards. You should read up before taking shit.

what are you even trying to say here? sarcasm or..?

OP the acid doesn't get absorbed into your spinal column. I've experienced a tight/achy back on lsd before. I think it's mostly psychosomatic or due to subconsciously tensing your muscles as a result of all that wonderful electric acidy energy running through your body! Maybe try some back stretches and taking an advil?

Or maybe it's your body telling you that you have crappy posture and need to rectify it!

Or it's stimulation. I get that on most drugs. I want to move around and do things, sitting down and staying still isn't always the best option.

Show me an article with that demonstrates scientific (not fucking hear/say) evidence for that claim, you know, so I can "read up" on it. *snip* :X

OK settle down. So either Samthe_Recordman does not know that that is a myth or he was trolling although in other posts he does not seem to be.

Flaming is not tolerated.

I have occasionally felt an electric charge in my back but perhaps awakened kundalini is a better description and approach for this. You don't have to necessarily believe it is true or untrue, but you may want to realize that it cannot hurt to look at all different perspectives - medical / scientific and spiritual. Yoga and meditation are closely related to tripping, I have come to experience this so that for me it is beyond dispute.
That means that I also feel it is better to search for appropriate ways to deal with it. If you don't believe in it, just humor or entertain it - say for a second that it hypothetically is, so that you can apply a practice to handle it well. In this case learning the basics of meditation can really help channel this feeling. While I am not that good at meditation per se, on acid it feels very natural and it makes me trip both harder and more stable and anxiety-free.

Good point, walking around and dancing are good ways to relieve body loads in general next to meditation. Whether the cause is captivated in yoga terms or vasoconstriction and muscle tightness.
What I think is that yoga-like practices help in these situations at least in part because they help you relax in natural ways. Incidently this feels like energy is not constricted anymore but flowing around freely. At least to me, and I have heard and read about enough others. Make of that what you will.

Absolutely - dancing or stretching or just walking around, or sitting with your back straight, shoulders relaxed and breathing deep should all help.

But in my experience, yoga is by far the best way to respond to this: I wouldn't say 'cure' it, because once you've developed some experience in yoga or chi kung, or just meditative tripping, then you can start to feel these sensations in the back and elsewhere as positively pleasurable.

If you believe the theory that psychedelics work by opening up chakras (energy centres) in the body (which is arguably a crude model, compared to a proper understanding of neurochemistry and the nervous and hormonal systems, but is still useful for understanding what is going on), then you would absolutely EXPECT to feel weird sensations up and down your spine, and you would expect that if you don't make an effort to concentrate on your posture in a meditative way, or stretch / loosen up with yoga or some similar exercise then those sensations would feel a little uncomfortable.

Even if you don't believe that, the points made above in the thread about the general stimulation of the nervous system producing these sensations are still absolutely relevant.

I often associate back tension with the body load from psychedelics. Usually on the come down. I like to lie flat on my back on the floor and stretch my arms up as far over my head as I can and point my toes. I personally prefer to avoid taking pharmaceuticals unless I am in severe pain, but cannabis does a good job of killing pain, and will often improve the trip.

For me MDMA is the worst for causing back pain. I once had a shooting pain in my back after taking molly that lasted for several days afterwards. I do have an extremely fucked up spine already, though.

Its just energy, play with it, move around, see what it wants. you'll find it

I always get sore backs on Shrooms/acid. Massage from my girlfriend during the afterglow makes it all worth it though :)
