I'll l try and describe it, You know when you are sitting in a quiet room and you can hear a slight continuous high pitched humming tone , sounds like a neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee or sort of like tinnitus, well I am getting sudden shift, slipping and drop outs in that sound accompanied with a brain numbness similar to the effects of Novocaine in your mouth.

To try and describe the sudden sound sensation I refer to an aeroplane and the you hit an air pocket that makes the plane suddenly drop down in to weightlessness and then stabilizes and then repeat that over and over, thats exactly what is happening to the sound in my brain, its going from the stable neeeeeeeeeeeeeee to an airpocket "WOMP" (brain zap) and back to neeeeeeee then slips to a jolting 'WOMP" intermediately.

I am getting concerned because the only other time I've ever experienced anything like that is when I catch myself just as I'm drifting off to sleep and notice the sudden "WOMP' type auditory and sensory change. Anyone know if its a side effect of having opiate withdrawals or the start of a seizure?

It's fucked up but I've had this also before I'd assumed it's from opiate withdrawal. Kind of a zap once your about to fall asleep or a also like a loud POP that only you can hear. I thought I was going crazy when it first happened to me. So try not to worry too much it's apparently pretty normal, although to be honest it still freaks me out lol

Hi, yes, I have experienced similar things to this. They're actually is a thread out there somewhere and if you search for "brain zap", you will see you are not alone lol.
for me, it was like everytime I turned my head or even my eyes in any direction Id feel like my brain was getting some weird electric shock, or jolt.

IME it is a side effect of withdrawal in general (most common with SSRI withdrawal - but I have experienced it with benzo w/d and opiate w/d).
Also when "drifting off to sleep" and it hits you is very similar to the feeling one gets at the onset of a panic attack.
Never had a seizure so I can't rule that out.

Thank you for the replies telling me its just normal withdrawal sensations, it was very comforting to read. I'm new to withdrawals and Its only the second time in my life I experienced the sensations, I just took a quarter of my regular dose and it went away.

I have experienced something similar while in opiate withdrawl. I can't say it's nothing to be worried about but in my experience it was of no consequence other than it kinda scared me at the time. It started during acute withdrawls and continued for weeks after the acute phase but in decreasing frequency. I also had persistent insomnia for weeks and towards the end I'd generally only get the brain zaps if I stayed up too late. I had to go to bed before they started because it seemed that once they started I would not get any sleep that night.

This sounds like mdma brain zaps. I also get them if i have missed my paxil for a few days. Its a serotonin thing? Is it the same thing? I know exactly what you mean about the sound. For me the effect is (if i sit and pay attention) that for a second all sounds around me are amplified along with a buzzing sound, and then its normal again. Weird.
