weekly 2-d art competition

yeah but even if a photo is hardly manipulated, what kind of advantage does it have?
this contest is about manipulation of 2d art, and people will vote as such.

once you start talking about how manipulated is enough, then there'll be too much contention and take away from the fun of this project.

The contest is about 2-d art (drawing, painting, digital, pictures of 3-d art, etc.), not just manipulation, but that is certainly included.

Am I missing something here? I don't understand why the eye picture is being snubbed, other than the size violation, it fits within the realm of digital art. :\

Techincally, drawing, painting etc manipulate the tools for the end result. but anyway, i'm totally in agreement with you.

basically, use common sense.

we HAVE a photo contest!

this is for OTHER kinds of art. theres no "point" at which a photo is acceptable... but make it fun. dont just take pictures... draw somethin, paint, actually USE photoshop!

not a hard and fast rule.... kinda like "dont vote for yourself"

get it?

I get that completely. What I don't understand is why the 'eye' is being questioned (except for the obvious size violation).

It looks pretty heavily manipulated. It looks nothing like a plain photograph of someone's eye. That's all I was wondering about. Digital art is included in art other than photography, and in this contest, right? I'm not trying to be a pain in the ass, I swear. ;) I just don't get why it wouldn't be 'allowed', as more than one person deemed unacceptable.

wes, great contest. i'd suggest making strict start/finish times, to ensure no one, even you slacks.

im sorry yall ive been really busy. ive got an entry READY and this closes tomorrow at midnight MY time. central usa.

I disagree, it looks like an un manipulated poor quality "camera phone" photo, (no offense to the poster.) but i think it is alot closer to a photo thatn 2-D art..:\
JUST MY OPINON though.......

I'm sure this will catch on soon, this is, afterall, just the first round, right? So dont be discouraged if there arent as many entries as you would like, it'll get there.

Is it too late to put some life drawing stuff in? I havnt gotten around to taking pics of my work yet so was just wondering :)

^ youve got 2.5 hours! :)

thizzle, have you messed with googles picassa? its amazing at cleaning up photos! i had a crappy digital camera as well, but i was able to fix it up real nice (even improve it some) with picassa.

its no photoshop, but its not meant for editing... just touch up.

hmm hadnt thought about it, but yea its only fair. i had to pick and choose, too!
