weed residue and flying

[there is no need to swim in these oceans] Is there any chance that the dogs will smell the weed residue that may be on the stuff in the baggage. I do not plan on bringing weed with me (too much risk)< however, I am worried that between touching weed and then touching my stuff and small bits of weed occasionally falling where they shouldn't, that there might be enough weed residue to alarm the dogs. I guess that I am asking if the dogs will raise alarm over trace amounts of residue on my clothing, computer, etc. If they might, what would happen if they did? WOuld I get in trouble even if I didn't have any actual weed on me? Would I be detained while they searched my stuff? Thanks. Peace.

you wont get in trouble if they dont find anything. you would probably be detained while being searched. if they found nothing you will probably get some stern warning or something but be free to go.
 
Dogs will be able to smell residue left on pieces I can assure you of that and you can still get fined (or arrested depending on where you live) for marijuana paraphernalia if you get caught. Its really risky to bring anything illegal onto an airplane and not to mention its highly illegal no matter what state you live in. But if all you have are tiny specks of bud in your luggage it probably won't be a problem.
 
As has been said already if you don't have gear or paraphernalia on you, you will be fine. Albeit later leaving the airport than you should have been if the dogs do happen to sniff you out.
 
They may be able to smell it, but if they don't find anything, they can't charge you.



It could be awkward to explain to the people you are with why you got stopped by the dogs though :\
 
Heard a story from one of dad's mates. Went along the lines of his son took the suitcase to schoolies and had bud in it. Anyway well got searched and missed his flight.
 
Nope, no paraphanalia. No piece or anything like that... just clothes. THanks for the replies.
 
Two followup questions:

1) has anyone here had any trouble from this (weed residue, but no weed) before (being detained, luggage searched because of dogs, etc)
2) How would a daily smoker avoid this problem in the future. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
 
Im just flying domestically to hawaii. So no crazy Dubai shit. Also, do the bomb sniffing dogs smell drugs, or are drug dogs and bomb sniffing dogs seperate. I figure if the same dogs sniff drugs and bombs I'm screwed because of recent hightened security. Are the odds high of me being detained, or are they miniscule, yet possibe? Thanks again.
 
I flew to San Diego from Charlette, Nc over summer of 09 and I didnt see any dogs. I really dont think they would smell a few specks of weed on some shirts in a suite case though.
 
different dogs for different shit. you can tell by the colour/type of collar/restraint they have on.


im not sure about the US dogs though so i cant help you there.

Care to elaborate? I know some countries have harsher drug laws than others...but do you have any links to stories where people have been killed for specs of marijuana?
