I just bought 4 strains that are very rare in my area ( canada) , and I was wondering for how long could I keep it in a close jar/ in the dark, before it becomes dry or alternate the effects/taste/...? I'm not planning to smoke it now!

depends how it was cured if its still a bit wet that it will be good for a while if its pretty dry the taste might leave the bud in a couple weeks.

Make sure it's cured correctly, and you can keep it for a very long time. For years. It may be dried out but like Chainer wrote, it won't lose potency.

Let it dry out. After that you can store it for a very long time. I've had cannabis that is years old, tasted kinda awful and really harsh, but didn't lose any potency.

My friend has a 'collection' of his favourite strains which is about 13 medium sized mason jars of weed, hes always kept them in a dark place and they've been in those jars for a long time, it hasnt made them any worse.

Some of my favourites are afghan kush and sour diesel.
