Thoughts on legalization? And to what extent should it be legal?

...or dont give a fuck smoke erryday? <3

it should be treated in the same fashion as alcohol, at minimum. I could be more liberal, but I don't see that happening.

I doubt legalization will come anytime soon, realistically it will probably be decriminalized and legal for medical use.

i like it illegal because i hate paying taxes

You remind me of a friend I went to high school with who said the same thing,
personally I say legalize, tax(keeps uncle sam happy), regulate like booze and be done with it but like was mentioned I don't see this^ happening anytime soon so I'd be good with decriminalization and medical legalization for now as it moves in the right direction. I'd rather be taxed for some herb than arrested for some herb:\.

As much as i would like to see it legal, it wont happen. How can u make money off of something that grows naturally out of the ground? If the legalized it, everyone would just grow it at home and sometimes go out to buy it at shops. Decriminalization is about the closest i think we would get. All the government wants is money, they make more money putting us in jail and then putting us on probation, making us pay thousands in fines and lawyer costs. This puts money in the hands that they want, if they wanted the people to make money it would have been legalized long long ago. Lobbies, pharmaceutical companies and alcohol will keep it illegal they make more money than all us pot smokers put together. In the end its about making money, sad but true. -- I wish i lived somewhere i wouldn't have gone to jail for having weed, i would gladly paid a fine, ticket, or do community service than be on probation for 2 years, have a suspended sentence and paying money so someone can watch me pee. HOORAY AMERICA!

umm...tobacco grows naturally out of the ground and big businesses do very well out of that...I don't see why it should be different for weed.

True enough but cigarettes aren't just tobacco, a whole bunch of crazy shit is added. I was trying get to the tax point

Alot of things grow out of the ground and do well i just said it in the wrong way. I meant illegal substances like weed wont be legal because of how easily it grows. Tobacco is easy to grow and a little complicated drying process just like weed but cigarettes are like 5 dollars a pack but you dont see people growing it in their backyard to save money. But you will see people growing their own dank cause its to expensive to buy even if it is legal.

If the government did tax weed it would be a bigger tax than cigarettes and alcohol combined, instead of a sin tax, "your a loser" super tax of like 10 dollars a gram.

don't underestimate the laziness of your typical american. most people will NOT grow their own. most people, like tomato eaters for example, go to the market to buy their produce and such. they don't have time or space to grow crops.

legalizing weed would create a massive, at least in the short term, small business growth and grow/supply/crop businesses-farmers. there'd be shops popping up with gourmet pot. wal mart would have shitty regs for super good prices.

it'd be beautiful. will it happen? nope.

You're already paying a vastly inflated price because of its illegality. It's doubtful it would cost more if it were legal and taxed.

My vote definitely goes for legal - I'm tired of waiting down alleyways in midwinter in godforsaken parts of town for minutes on end while my dealer takes his time.

Decriminalisation is a stupid halfway house idea-it's legal to buy it but not to sell it? It doesn't address the real problems that prohibition causes, and when it fails (as it certainly would) the anti-drug lobby would have an argument for recriminalising it.

I agree with Yerg 100% here. Decriminalization makes no sense whatsoever in the grand scheme of the problem. Medical legalization does and is a step in the right direction imo. This is what they did with alcohol in the U.S. in the 20's(prohibition era) it was legal for medicinal use(for what ailment I don't know) and most any doc would write the prescription for it as many docs probably already do for cannabis. It really just makes the most sense to make it legal.
Also I doubt to many folks are going to take the time and effort to grow there own and I don't just mean in the U.S. I mean the world over. As a person who has tried I can honestly say there is more to growing a good plant than sticking a seed in dirt and adding water most people won't want to take that effort. Plus as was mentioned most people won't even grow their own tomatoes so they probably won't grow their own smoke.
I also don't get the "I don't want it taxed" argument everything you buy is taxed for the most part so this makes little to no sense. I pose a question to these people, Would you rather it be taxed and get to smoke with no legal repercussions or leave it illegal and get a huge fine or jail time?

i like it illegal cuz its the one thing i do that makes me feel badass haha

but honestly i think it should be legalized and alcohol and tobacco should be illegalized

If they are going to Tax the product; I believe that then the Public schools should have information just as sex ed is teached in some schools. If it not taxed and simply legal there will be help lines just as there are gambling hot-lines or help . .

This is just on a ramble . . . not sure if I really even know what I just scribed above
